PM Modi lays foundation stone of 340 km-long Purvanchal Expressway

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of the Rs 23,000 crore Purvanchal Expressway in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh. The 354 km-long expressway will connect Lucknow and Ghazipur cutting down travel time effectively. It will complete a link between UP’s east and west.

SEBI proposes tighter rules for auditors, valuers

India's ‘Security Exchange Board of India’ has proposed amendments to tighten laws governing auditors and other third-party individuals hired by listed companies for auditing financial results and other things. This step is inspired by the recommendations of Kotak committee on corporate governance.

United Nations elects Iceland to replace US on Human Rights Council.

UN General Assembly has elected Iceland to replace the United States on the U.N. Human Rights Council following the Trump administration’s decision to leave the Geneva-based organization last month. The 47-member Human Rights Council allocates a specific number of seats for each region of the globe.

UNSC imposes arms embargo on South Sudan

United Nations Security Council has passed a resolution to impose an arms embargo on South Sudan. The measure will stop the flow of weapons to armed groups in the country. It is in addition to the current sanctions, till May 31, 2019.
