IIT Guwahati has formulated efficient "pincer" catalytic systems that transform biomass wastes into valuable chemicals. Tiny amounts of "pincer catalysts" convert large amounts of industrial waste such as glycerol into lactic acid and hydrogen.
Catalysts also efficiently convert bioethanol into butanol.

Bosch and BASF Digital Farming have signed a 50:50 joint venture agreement to globally market and sell smart farming solutions from a single source in the future. The JV agreement will be followed by the founding of a new company based in Cologne.

Legendary Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee passed away. He was 85. Chatterjee’s honours included a Padma Bhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. In 2017, the French government gave Chatterjee its highest civilian award, the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
Chatterjee was also an accomplished playwright and poet.
