Novak Djokovic Wins 19th Grand Slam Title, Beats Tsitsipas to Clinch 2nd Roland Garros Title

Novak Djokovic (Serbia) defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) to lift the French Open title. The 2021 French Open triumph is Djokovic's second Roland Garros title, the first coming in 2016. French pair Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert claimed the French Open doubles title for the second time. It was their fifth Grand Slam title as a team.

Naftali Bennett sworn in as Israel’s new prime minister

Naftali Bennett was sworn in as Israel's new Prime Minister, ousting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from power after an uninterrupted 12 years at the helm of affairs. Bennett presented his new government's ministers in the Knesset (Israeli parliament) in a speech. The new government has 27 ministers, nine of them women.

47th G7 summit held in UK's Cornwall

PM Narendra Modi called for following a "one earth, one health" approach to effectively deal with the coronavirus pandemic globally, and sought the support of the G7 grouping to lift patent protections for COVID-19 vaccines.

Group of Seven (G7) comprises the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States.

Former SC judge Arjan Kumar Sikri appointed chairperson of Grievance Redressal body for OTT platforms : IAMAI

Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri will chair the Grievance Redressal Board of the recently formed Digital Publisher Content Grievances Council (DPCGC).

It will function as an independent body and act as the second-tier within the three-tier grievance redressal mechanism as envisioned by the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

Assam to institute own versions of Bharat Ratna and Padma awards

The Assam government will present its own versions of the Bharat Ratna and the Padma awards from next year. The cabinet also instituted other civilian honours such as the Asom Bibhushan Award to be presented to three persons, the Assam Bhushan to five, and the Asom Shree to 10 people every year.

India can save ₹3.11 trillion worth of fuel used in logistics till 2050 : report

A report titled "Fast Tracking Freight in India: A Roadmap for Clean and Cost-Effective Goods Transport" from Niti Aayog and Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) has found that India can save ₹3.11 trillion worth of fuel till 2050 if it deploys clean and cost-effective mode of goods transportation. It added that the country can bring down its cost of logistics by 4% of its GDP.

India slips 12 spots to 55th position in global home price index: Knight Frank

India has moved down 12 spots in the global home price index to 55th rank in Q1 2021 against 43rd rank in Q1 2020, with a decline of 1.6 percent year-on-year (YoY) in home prices, Knight Frank, in its latest research report - Global House Price Index - Q1 2021. Turkey continues to lead the annual rankings with prices up by 32 percent YoY, followed by New Zealand.

WW-2 veteran and MVC recipient in 1965 war Brig Raghubir Singh passes away at 99

Brigadier Raghubir Singh who was decorated with the Maha Vir Chakra (MVC) for gallantry in the 1965 Indo-Pak war, passed away at the age of 99. The Rajputana Rifles battalion that he had commanded played a key role in the battle of Asal Uttar in the western sector during the war.

RBI allows prepaid mobile recharges through Bharat Bill Payment System

According to RBI, The scope of the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) will be expanded by August 31 this year by adding 'mobile prepaid recharges as a biller category. BBPS is an interoperable platform for recurring bill payments operated by the National Payments Corporation of India. In May, 213.59 million bill payment transactions were carried out through the BBPS channel.
