Nobel laureate Esther Duflo, ex-RBI chief Raghuram Rajan named in Tamil Nadu economic advisory panel

The Tamil Nadu government named Nobel laureate Esther Duflo and former Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan as part of a five-member Economic Advisory Council for the state.

The other members in the council are former Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian, development economist Jean Drèze and former Union Finance Secretary S Narayan.

India and Fiji signed an MoU that provides for cooperation in the fields of Dairy Industry, Rice Industry, Root crop diversification, Water Resources Management, Coconut Industry, Food Processing Industry, Agriculture Mechanization, and Horticulture Industry.

A Joint Working Group to be established to set down procedures and plan and recommend programs of cooperation.

Nikol Pashinyan elected as Armenia Prime Minister

Armenia’s acting prime minister, Nikol Pashinyan, kept power in a parliamentary election that boosted his authority despite being widely blamed for a military defeat last year in the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave.

Nikol's Civil Contract party won 53.92% of the votes cast.

Bharti Airtel and Tata Group team up for ‘Made in India’ 5G network solutions

Airtel & Tata Group announced a strategic partnership for implementing 'Made in India' 5G network solutions.

The 5G technology is based on O-RAN (Open Radio Access Network) based NSA/SA (Non-standalone/Standalone) Core technology.

Airtel will pilot and deploy the technology as a part of its 5G roll-out plans in India.

The pilot services will begin in January 2022.

Mamata Banerjee launches Krishak Bandhu 2.0, doubles assistance for all farmers

West Bengal relaunched the Krishak Bandhu scheme, doubling the assistance to farmers to Rs 10,000 a year. Farm laborers and sharecroppers who own at least one kottah (0.0165 acre) of land, will now get Rs 4,000 a year, instead of Rs 2,000 they used to get earlier.

Those having less than one acre of cultivable land will now receive a minimum of Rs 4,000 per annum.

Gold loan company Muthoot Fincorp has picked up a 54 percent stake in Hyderabad-based fintech startup Paymatrix by buying out existing investors as part of its added focus on the digital payments segment.

Paymatrix was set up in 2016 with a vision to streamline property rent payments and rent collections for tenants and landlords.
