IPO-bound LIC to have CEO, managing director as Centre scraps chairman post

As the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) readies itself for public listing, the government has abolished the position of chairman at the insurer, which will have a chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director (MD).

The insurer will continue with the post of MD. Both CEO and MD will be appointed by the central government.

IDBI Bank disinvestment: Govt approves 100% stake sale by Centre, LIC

The government has approved the sale of its entire stake, and that of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), in IDBI bank.

At present, IDBI Bank is classified as a private sector bank by the RBI with the government's shareholding at 45.5 percent, LIC's shareholding at 49.24 percent and the non-promoter shareholding at 5.29 percent.

Bharat Dynamics Ltd signs Rs 499-crore deal with IAF for Akash missiles

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) signed a contract worth about Rs 499 crore with the Ministry of Defence for the manufacture and supply of Akash missiles to the Indian Air Force (IAF).

BDL is supplying Akash Missiles to the Indian Army and Indian Air Force.

BDL is the prime production agency for projects under India's Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP).

Indian-origin player Samir Banerjee wins Wimbledon Boys’ singles title

Indian-American tennis player Samir Banerjee, 17, has won the Wimbledon Boys’ singles title. He defeated Victor Lilov of the USA 7-5, 6-3 to win the title in the final, which lasted one hour and 22 minutes.

At the junior French Open, Banerjee, ranked 19 in the world, had crashed out in the first round.

This was the 17-year-old’s second appearance at a junior Grand Slam.

PM Modi receives 1st copy of the book 'The Ramayana of Shri Guru Gobind Singh'

Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the first copy of "The Ramayana of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji" which is written by the late Baljit Kaur Tulsi—the mother of noted lawyer KTS Tulsi.

The book is published by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts.

India’s first cryptogamic garden housing nearly 50 species of lichens, ferns and fungi was inaugurated in Deoban, Dehradun district

Located in the district’s Chakrata town, the garden was inaugurated by social activist Anoop Nautiyal.

Around 50 species have been grown in the garden at Deoban in Chakrata at a commanding height of 9,000 ft
