India Trade Promotion Organisation CMD LC Goyal gets fifth extension till September 1 2022

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension in the tenure of Goyal, a 1979-batch IAS (retired) officer of Kerala cadre, as the CMD of ITPO for a period of one year beyond 01.09.2021 i.e. up to 01.09.2022 or until further orders.

Goyal, who had briefly worked as the Union home secretary, was on August 31, 2015 appointed the ITPO chief.

AG Thankappan Appointed as Chairman of Spices Board

AG Thankappan is the new Chairman of Spices Board, Kochi. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed him at this position for a period of three years.

Spices Board was founded in the year 1987 under Spices Board Act, 1986. Its responsibilities included the production and development of cardamom and the export promotion of 52 spices named in the Act.

Govt appoints Suman Sharma as new Managing Director of SECI

The government has appointed Suman Sharma as the managing director (MD) of Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

Sharma is currently serving as the Additional DGFT, Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Department of Commerce.

Axis Bank raises $600 million with first ESG bonds in India

Axis Bank has raised $600 million from offshore investors by selling sustainable additional tier-1 (AT1) bonds at a coupon of 4.1 per cent.

The bank will be using the proceeds towards eligible green and social project categories.

This is the third environment, social and governance-themed bond issue by any lender globally and the first one in India.

PhonePe launches 'Pulse'; India’s first interactive geospatial website for digital payment insights

PhonePe has launched 'PhonePe Pulse'. It is India’s first interactive website with data, insights and trends on digital payments in the country.

PhonePe also released Pulse Report, an in-depth study on the evolution of digital payments over the past 5 years. It includes detailed geographical and category specific trends.

HDFC Life to acquire 100% stake in Exide Life Insurance for Rs 6,687 crores

The life insurance company will acquire 100% stake in Exide Life from Exide Industries through issuance of 8,70,22,222 shares at an issue price of ₹685 per share and a cash payout of ₹726 crore aggregating to ₹6,687 crore.

The company expects Exide Life's strong foothold in South India, especially in Tier 2 and 3 towns, to provide access to a wider market.

India, US sign Unmanned Aerial Vehicles co-development project agreement

India and the United States have signed an agreement recently to co-develop air-launched Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) under the US-India Defense Technology and Trade Initiative, a bilateral defense cooperation mechanism that promotes collaborative technology exchange.

The project is valued at more than USD 22 million with costs shared equally.

RBI imposes ₹50 lakh penalty on Bombay Mercantile Co-operative Bank

The penalty on Bombay Mercantile Co-operative Bank, Mumbai is for deficiency in regulatory compliance.

WhatsApp faces $267 million GDPR fine over privacy breaches

45 solar parks with 37 GW capacity approved under solar park scheme

Promoting solar parks is part of govt's strategy with India’s solar and wind generation recording an all-time high of 43.1GW on 27 July. India has also crossed the GW of installed renewable energy capacity.

India is running the world’s largest clean energy programme to achieve 175 GW of renewable capacity, including 100GW of solar power and 60 GW of wind power by 2022.

International Vulture Awareness Day

International Vulture Awareness Day (IVAD) falls on the first Saturday in September every year and is a way to show the human kind's appreciation for vultures and the ecosystem services they provide.

The initiative is run jointly by the Birds of Prey Programme of the Endangered Wildlife Trust in South Africa and the Hawk Conservancy Trust in England.
