Ash Barty named WTA Player of the Year, Raducanu wins newcomer award

World no. 1 Ash Barty was named WTA Player of the Year for the second time and U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu took the Newcomer of the Year title, the governing body of the women's game said.

Czech Barbora Krejcikova took the WTA prize for the Most Improved Player of the Year following a stellar season.

Carla Suarez Navarro was named the Comeback Player of the Year award.

Nilmani Phookan Jr, Damodar Mauzo win Jnanpith award for years 2020, 2021

Noted Assamese poet Nilmani Phukan won the 56th Jnanpith Award and Konkani short story writer and novelist Damodar Mauzo won the 57th Jnanpith Award for their contribution to Indian literature.

Jnanpith is the highest literary prize of India, awarded to the writers in the scheduled languages of the country.

The last Jnanpith was given to Malayalam poet Akkitham in 2019.

President Barrow wins second term in Gambia election

Gambia, Adama Barrow comfortably won a second term in The Gambia's presidential election.

Barrow obtained 457,519 votes, while Ousainou Darboe, a lawyer and long-time opponent of former President Yahya Jammeh, came in second place.

Barrow obtained the majority of the votes in 45 of the 53 electoral districts of the country, consolidating his leadership for a second term.

RBI Monetary Policy: Repo rate unchanged at 4% for the 9th consecutive time

The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) kept the repo rate unchanged at 4 per cent for the ninth consecutive time while maintaining an ‘accommodative stance’ as long as necessary.

The reverse repo rate too was kept unchanged at 3.35 percent.

The Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) rate and bank rate also remained unchanged at 4.25 percent.

Number of ATMs in country at over 2.13 lakh, says Finance Ministry

The number of ATMs across the country stood at over 2.13 lakh by the end of September this year, and over 47 per cent of these are in rural and semi-urban areas.

According to the RBI data, scheduled commercial banks have installed 2,13,145 ATMs (automated teller machines) up to September 2021. In addition to this, 27,837 White Label ATMs (WLA) were also installed.
