The Supreme Council of the Union elected Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler of Abu Dhabi, as President of the UAE.
The Council held a meeting at the Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi, headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
In line with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Communications, Electronics & IT and Railways, has launched the “GatiShakti Sanchar” portal for Centralised Right of Way (RoW) approvals (www.sugamsanchar.gov.in). Andrew Symonds, the former Australia all-rounder, has passed away following a car crash near the outskirts of the city of Townsville. He was 46. Symonds, one of the greatest all-rounders to represent the country, played 26 Tests, 198 ODIs and 14 T20Is for Australia and was a two-time World Cup winner.
UBI has launched a digital solution, ‘Trade nxt’ to ease all cross-border export-import transactions for corporates and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The online platform provides seamless entry and processing of letters of credit (LC), bank guarantees, export and import bills, disbursement of export credit, outward & inward remittances etc.

RBI permitted banks, including small finance banks, to continue providing credit facility to NBFCs for the purpose of on-lending to certain priority sectors. The facility of lending by commercial banks to NBFCs and lending by Small Finance Banks (SFBs) to NBFC-MFIs, for the purpose of on-lending to certain priority sectors, was available till 31 March, 2022.
All scheduled commercial banks are mandated to set aside 40% of their ANDC as PSL.
The 12th meeting of BRICS health ministers has agreed that BRICS countries will launch an early warning system for large-scale pandemics. Hosted by China virtually, the meeting was joined by more than 70 attendees including health ministers from BRICS countries and the deputy director-general of the World Health Organization.
China is scheduled to host the BRICS summit in Xiamen in June this year.

About 20% of the non-performing assets (NPAs) of banks that were to be transferred to National Asset Reconstruction Co. Ltd (NARCL) in two tranches has been resolved. Almost ₹40,000 crore of bad loans have been resolved since the announcement was first made, and by the time the NARCL starts operating more NPAs may get resolved.
Setting up of NARCL was announced in February 2021.
Amit Shah inaugurated the ‘National Cyber Forensic Laboratory’ (NCFL) at Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) campus in Hyderabad. The NCFL will speed up the process for disposal of cybercrime cases in the country. Cybercrime is one of the biggest challenges to the 21st century world. This will help in increasing the conviction rate of cyber crimes.
Emirates Telecommunications Group Company PJSC, now known as e&, has acquired a 9.8% stake in Vodafone for $4.4 billion. The UAE firm recently separated its business into consumer services-focused e& life, e& enterprise, providing digital services to government and business, and telecoms arm Etisalat.
The purchase makes the UAE-based company the largest shareholder in Vodafone.
The celebrated architect, 94, has become one of the few to have been awarded two of the world’s most coveted architectural awards: the Royal Gold Medal and the Pritzker Architecture Prize, often hailed as the Nobel Prize of architecture, which he won in 2018.
He was given the Royal Gold Medal by the Royal Institute of British Architects.
Doshi is the only person from India to be bestowed with both accolades.
