Madhya Pradesh wins maiden Ranji Trophy title, beats Mumbai by six wickets in final

Madhya Pradesh kept its date with the record books, winning its maiden Ranji Trophy title with a six-wicket victory over Mumbai. Madhya Pradesh now becomes the fourth first-time winner of the Ranji Trophy in the last five seasons - joining Gujarat, Vidarbha (two-time winners now) and Saurashtra.

Mumbai made it to the Ranji Trophy final for a record 47 times.

Bengaluru’s Digantara, Hyderabad startup Dhruva become first to get IN-SPACe authorisation

Bengaluru’s Digantara and Hyderabad-based Dhruva Space became the first two private firms to receive authorization letters late on. The letters were handed over after the DeSSEI conference in Bengaluru.

Both firms will be launching their payloads as part of Isro’s PSLV-C53 mission scheduled for a June 30 launch.

IAF conducts 1st Warfare & Aerospace Strategy Program’s capstone seminar

The first Warfare & Aerospace Strategy Program was conducted by the Indian Air Force, with the capstone seminar held at the Air Force Auditorium in New Delhi (WASP). The College of Air Warfare and Centre for Air Power Studies supervised the seminar’s operation.

The aim of WASP is to foster strategic thought and awareness among IAF personnel.

Utricularia Furcellata: Rare carnivorous plant found for first time in western Himalayan region

An extremely rare carnivorous plant has been found for the first time in the western Himalayas by the forest department officials of India’s snowbound Uttarakhand state.

In September 2021, a team from the Research Wing of the Uttarakhand Forest discovered the Utricularia Furcellata plant in Uttarakhand’s Mandal valley, Chamoli district, at an elevation of 4,800 feet.

Iran launches a solid-fueled rocket 'Zuljanah' into space

Iran has launched a solid-fueled rocket into space. Named Zuljanah, this 25.5 meter-long rocket is capable of carrying a satellite of 220 kilograms that will ultimately gather data in low-earth orbit and promote Iran’s space industry. Zuljanah is named for the horse of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.

RBI extends card tokenisation deadline by 3 months

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)announced an extension of the deadline for card data storage and tokenisation implementation by another three months to September 30, 2022 from June 30,2022.

As part of this initiative, merchants and payment aggregators are required to delete all card details and replace them with tokens.

Cochin Shipyard delivers two Autonomous Electric Barges to Norway-based ASKO Maritime AS

The 67-meter-long barges were delivered as Full Electric Transport Ferries powered by an 1846 kWh battery. It can transport 16 fully loaded Standard EU Trailers in one go across the fjords in Norway.

ASKO project is an ambitious project in Norway, which is partially funded by the Norwegian government as a part of a green shipping programme aimed at emission-free transport.

IRARC's Avinash Kulkarni to head India Debt Resolution Company

The chief executive of India Resurgence Asset Reconstruction Company (IRARC), Avinash Kulkarni, has been selected to head the India Debt Resolution Company (IDRCL) which will be the sole agent to resolve more than ₹83,000 crore of bad loans to be acquired by the government-backed National Asset Reconstruction Company (NARCL).

He replaces Manish Makharia.

World's biggest bacterium found in Caribbean mangrove swamp

The bacterium is named Thiomargarita magnifica or "magnificent sulfur pearl" and can reach a length of 2 centimetres. It is roughly 50 times larger than all known giant bacteria.

The thin white filament, approximately the size of a human eyelash, is by far the largest bacterium known to date.

First example of this bacterium was found in archipelago of Guadeloupe in 2009.

National Kiteboarding championship to be held in Tuticorin from June 27

The third edition of the National Kiteboarding Championship will be held in Tuticorin.

The event will see over 50 athletes from all over the country competing for top honours.

The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing.

The three-day event will be held under the aegis of the Yachting Association of India (YAI).

Dhanalakshmi becomes 3rd fastest Indian woman in 200m

Tokyo Olympian Dhanalakshmi Sekar clocked her personal best time of 22.89s to win the 200m sprint at the Qosanov Memorial 2022 athletics meet in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Dhanalakshmi is only the third Indian woman to run sub-23s after national record holder Saraswati Saha (22.82s) and Hima Das (22.88s).

Another Indian Dutee Chand was third with a time of 23.60s.

India gains rank on Ookla Speedtest Global Index in May

Speedtest Global Index released by network intelligence and connectivity insights provider Ookla showed that India recorded 14.28 Mbps median mobile download speeds in the month of May, slightly better than 14.19 Mbps in April.

With this,India is at 115th position.

India improved its global ranking for overall fixed median download speeds,from 76th in April to 75th in May.

The United Nations General Assembly designated 27 June as “Micro-, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises Day” to raise awareness of the tremendous contributions of micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

MSMEs account for 90% of businesses, 60 to 70% of employment and 50% GDP worldwide.

South Korea successfully launched satellites into orbit with its homegrown Nuri rocket.

The three-stage Nuri rocket, built by the government’s Korea Aerospace Research Institute ​together with hundreds of local companies, ​blasted off from the Naro Space Center in Goheung​ on the southwestern tip of South Korea.

IRS officer Nitin Gupta appointed new CBDT chairman

Nitin Gupta has been appointed as the new Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

The post of the CBDT chief was being held in an additional capacity by Board member and 1986-batch IRS officer Sangeeta Singh after J B Mohapatra retired on April 30.

The CBDT is headed by a Chairman and can have six members who are in the rank of special secretary.
