Eknath Shinde takes oath as Maharashtra CM, Devendra Fadnavis as his deputy

Eknath Shinde took oath as the new chief minister of Maharashtra at the Raj Bhavan. Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as the deputy chief minister.

Shinde, served as the urban development minister in the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government,

Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari administered the oath of office and secrecy to Shinde (58), and Fadnavis (51).

State Bank of India (SBI) celebrates 67th Foundation Day | July 1st

The oldest commercial bank in the country, State Bank of India, is celebrating its 67th year on 1st July. SBI descends from the Bank of Calcutta founded in 1806 through the Imperial Bank of India.

The Bank of Madras merged into the other two presidency banks, the bank of Calcutta and the bank of Bombay to form the Imperial Bank of India which in turn became the SBI in 1955.

Fiscal deficit for April-May period at 12% of Budget Estimate

The fiscal deficit for first two months of the current fiscal reached over 12 per cent of the Budget Estimate. It is 4 percentage points higher than deficit during the corresponding period of last fiscal. Experts estimate fiscal deficit for the whole year to be higher than the Budget Estimate of 6.4 per cent for FY23.

World Bank Board Approves New Fund for Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response (PPR)

The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved the establishment of a financial intermediary fund (FIF) that will finance critical investments to strengthen pandemic PPR capacities at national, regional, and global levels, with a focus on low- and middle-income countries.

CCI has approved a combination involving Google International LLC’s proposed acquisition of a minority and non-controlling stake of 1.28% of equity capital of Bharti Airtel Limited (target).

Google International (acquirer) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Google LLC, which is a Delaware limited liability company and wholly owned subsidiary of Alphabet Inc.

Gross NPAs of banks fall to six-year low of 5.9% in March : RBI

Gross non performing assets(GNPAs) of scheduled commercial banks(SCBs) fell to a six-year low of 5.9% in March 2022 and could fall further to 5.3% by March 2023, according to the Financial Stability Report of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for June.

Further,the Capital to Risk-weighted Assets Ratio(CRAR) rose to a new high of 16.7% in March 2022.

Govt authorises SBI to issue and en-cash Electoral Bonds from July 1-10

The government approved issuance of the 21st tranche of electoral bonds that will open for sale from July 1.

Electoral bonds have been pitched as an alternative to cash donations made to political parties as part of efforts to bring transparency in political funding.

SBI is the only authorised bank to issue electoral bonds.

Ecuador President Guillermo Lasso has survived an impeachment vote after the opposition failed to gather enough votes to oust him. The motion garnered 80 votes in the 137-member Congress. In all, 92 votes were needed to remove Lasso from office. Forty-eight lawmakers rejected the motion.

18% GST will be levied on fee charged by banks for issue of cheques.

LED lamps,ink,knives,blades, power-driven pumps & dairy machinery will attract 18% GST, higher than the existing 12%.Further,GST rate on solar water heaters and finished leather was hiked from 5% to 12%.

Somali Parliament unanimously approved the appointment of Hamza Abdi Barre as the country’s new prime minister.

Speaker of the Somali Federal Parliament, Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madobe) said 220 members who attended the session endorsed Barre who was appointed by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank acquire 9.54% stake each in Perfios Account Aggregation Services

SBI, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank acquired a 9.54 per cent stake each in Perfios Account Aggregation Services Private Limited (Perfios AA).

These banks acquired 8,05,520 equity shares each by paying Rs 4.03 crore each for the stakes.

National Doctors' Day - July 1

National Doctors’ Day celebrations in India began in 1991 on July 1 to honour Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, or B.C. Roy, whose birth and death anniversary, both fall on July 1. B.C. Roy was a famous physician and freedom fighter from West Bengal. He also became the Chief Minister of West Bengal from 1948 till his death in 1962.

Ketanji Brown Jackson sworn in, becomes 1st Black woman on US Supreme Court

Ketanji Brown Jackson has been sworn in to the Supreme Court, shattering a glass ceiling as the first Black woman on the nation’s highest court.

The 51-year-old Jackson is the court’s 116th justice.

Jackson,a federal judge since 2013,is joining three other women, the first time four women will serve together on the 9-member court.
