Tata Power board approves appointment of ex-home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi as independent director

The board "unanimously approved" Mehrishi's appointment as an "additional director (non-executive, independent), not liable to retire by rotation, for a term of five years with effect from October 28, 2022.

The ex-bureaucrat "fulfils the criteria of independence" as required under the provisions of the Companies Act, 2013.

China launches a COVID-19 vaccine inhaled through the mouth

The vaccine, a mist that is sucked in through the mouth, is being offered for free as a booster dose for previously vaccinated individuals.

The Chinese city of Shanghai has started administering this inhalable COVID-19 vaccine in what appears to be a world first.

It was developed by Chinese biopharmaceutical company Cansino Biologics Inc.

Pather Panchali declared best Indian movie by FIPRESCI

The feature film Pather Panchali(1955) by renowned director Satyajit Ray has been named the best Indian movie of all time by the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI).

Others on the list include: Meghe Dhaka Tara, Bhuvan Shome, Elippathayam, Ghatashraddha, Garm Hava, Charulata, Ankur, Pyaasa and Sholay.

Shefali Juneja elected as chairperson of UN’s Air Transport Committee

Shefali Juneja, India’s representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), has been elected as the chairperson of United Nations’ specialized aviation agency’s Air Transport Committee (ATC).

India secured this position in ICAO after 28 years when Juneja was unanimously elected to the post.She is the first woman to represent India in the ICAO.

Malabar becomes 1st Indian jeweller to import 25 kg gold from UAE under CEPA

Retail jewellery major Malabar Gold and Diamonds has become the first jeweller in India to import 25 kg gold under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and the UAE. The gold has been imported through ICICI Bank with one percent duty rebate under the agreement.

Akanksha Vyavahare creates three new national records at Khelo India weightlifting meet

Maharashtra-based weightlifter Akanksha Vyavahare created three new national records in the 40kg weight category at the Khelo India National Ranking Women’s Weightlifting tournament held in Ghaziabad, Noida.

Akanksha bettered her existing Snatch national record, by lifting 60kg. She recorded 71kg in the Clean & Jerk, and on the process, registering a total lift of 131kg.

SAIL signs agreement with AAI to facilitate commercial operations at Rourkela airport under UDAN scheme

SAIL and the Airport Authority of India, AAI signed an Operation and Management agreement in New Delhi to facilitate commercial operations from Rourkela in Odisha. SAIL, in 2018, had signed a MoU for the use of its own airport, under the UDAN scheme, for the operation of commercial flights.

AAI, on behalf of SAIL-Rourkela Steel Plant, will operate and manage the airport.

Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise ‘Simbex’ - 2022

The Indian Navy is hosting the 29th edition of the Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX) from 26 to 30 October, 2022 at Visakhapatnam.

SIMBEX-2022 is being conducted in two phases – Harbour Phase at Visakhapatnam from 26 to 27 October 2022 followed by the Sea Phase in Bay of Bengal from 28 to 30 October 2022.

India likely to see biggest jump in energy demand globally, says IEA in its World Energy Outlook report.

India is likely to see the world’s biggest rise in energy demand this decade, with demand climbing 3% annually due to urbanisation and industrialisation.

While the push for renewable energy will see it meeting as much as 60 per cent of the growth in demand for power, coal will continue to meet a third of overall energy demand by 2030 and another quarter will be met by oil.

RIL becomes first Indian company to post earnings call on metaverse

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) posted the proceedings of its second quarter earnings call on the metaverse, becoming the first Indian firm to use the medium to engage with its stakeholders.

The earning call, which can be accessed through any device (even a smartphone) was produced in partnership with GMetri -- a no-code metaverse creation platform, sources said.
