2022 theme of ‘World Toilet Day’ is ‘Making the Invisible Visible’.

Franca Ma-ih Sulem Yong gets UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Prize for 2022

The UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-Violence has been given to Franca Ma-ih Sulem Yong from Cameroon, President of the two NGOs Afrogiveness and Positive Youths Africa.

The Prize is named after its benefactor, former Indian artist, writer and diplomat Madanjeet Singh (1924-2013) who was also a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.

Tamil Nadu introduces India’s first elephant death audit framework

In a first of its kind initiative in India, Tamil Nadu has brought out the ‘Tamil Nadu Elephant Death Audit Framework’ to document reasons for elephant deaths for better accountability.

The framework will improve transparency, assist all stakeholders in assessing the results and ultimately facilitate standardization and more credible comparisons of cause of mortality.

SBI gets Rs 1,240 crore from German KfW for solar projects

State Bank of India signed a 150 million euro (Rs 1,240 crore) loan agreement with the German development bank KfW for funding solar projects. The long-term loan, under the Indo-German solar partnership, will facilitate new and upcoming capacities in the solar sector and further contribute to the country's goals announced during the COP26.

India ranks high in climate protection, bags 8th position in Climate Change Performance Index

India climbed 2 spots to bag 8th position out of 63 in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2023.

The rankings by Germanwatch, NewClimate Institute and the Climate Action Network are based on how well the countries are doing to halve their emissions by 2030 -- an essential aspect to keep the 1.5-degree Celsius goal within reach and prevent dangerous climate change

The 53rd edition of IFFI, the International Film Festival of India is all set to open to a colourful opening ceremony at Goa

The Austrian film, Alma and Oskar, directed by Dieter Berner, will open the festival. ISRO successfully launches first ever private Rocket from Sriharikota

India's first ever private Vikram Suborbital rocket was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. The rocket reached an altitude of 89.5 km with three payloads weighing a total of 83 kilogram.

The rocket safely splashed in the waters of the Bay of Bengal at around 115 km after the lift-off from Sriharikota.

Govt raises maximum tenure of PSU Banks’ MD and CEO from 5 years to 10 years

The government has increased the maximum term for the MD and CEO of public sector banks (PSBs) from 5 to 10 years, subject to a retirement age of 60, as per a government notification. This also applies to all PSBs' full-time directors.

The amendment would be known as the Nationalised Banks (Management and Miscellaneous Provisions) Amendment Scheme, 2022.
