Asia's largest civil aviation event, Wings India 2024 underway in Hyderabad

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyothiraditya Scindia inaugurated the prestigious Wings India 2024 and Global Aviation Summit at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad. The Airports Authority of India in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Ministry and FICCI has organised the four-day event.

Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa surpasses Viswanathan Anand to become India's number one Chess player

India Chess Wizard Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa defeated World Chess Champion Ding Liren in the Tata Steel Masters in Wijk aan Zee, in the Netherlands. As a result of this victory, Praggnanandhaa became only the second Indian after Vishwanathan Anand to defeat a reigning champion. He also overtook Anand to become India's new number one Chess player in terms of live ratings.

Indian economy expected to grow at 7.3% in current fiscal, says RBI Governor at World Economic Forum in Davos

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das stressed that according to the first advance estimate, released by the National Statistical Office (NSO), India’s economy is expected to grow at 7.3 percent in FY2024. He said this at a chat as part of World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. Mr Das said that India’s growth momentum will be maintained in the future years.

LIC becomes most valuable PSU firm, surpasses SBI in market valuation

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) surpassed State Bank of India (SBI) to become the country's most valued PSU firm by market valuation. The market capitalisation of LIC stood at Rs 5,60,964.05 crore, which is Rs 2,149.47 crore more than SBI's Rs 5,58,814.58 crore valuation. LIC stood at the ninth place in the ranking of top ten most valued firms.

Adani Group to invest Rs 50,000 cr to set up data centre in Maharashtra

Adani Group will invest Rs 50,000 crore over the next 10 years in setting up a 1 GW data centre in Maharashtra, the apples-to-airport conglomerate. Adani Enterprises Ltd, the flagship company of the group, and the Maharashtra government, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for setting up the 1 GW (gigawatt) hyperscale data infrastructure.

Apple reclaims most valued brand title; Tata only Indian brand in top 100

Technology companies continue to be the most valued brands globally, with the top five most valued companies from the technology sector, according to Brand Finance 2024. Samsung has entered the top five most valued brands globally.

Apple secured the first position after falling to the second spot in 2023. Apple's brand value increased by $219 billion to $517 billion.

Google Pay signs agreement to expand UPI for international payments

Google Pay and NPCI International Payments on signed an agreement to expand the scope of Unified Payments Interface payments outside India. It will enable Indian travellers to transact digitally abroad while establishing systems similar to UPI in other countries. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed at a time when India is simplifying cross-border payments.

IIT Madras partners with technology firm Altair for e-mobility lab

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has partnered with Altair, a company providing solutions in simulation and high-performance computing and artificial intelligence, to start a laboratory for e-mobility.

The eMobility Simulation Lab at the department of engineering design, IIT Madras, will have the latest tools along with financial support from Altair.

DMI group acquires BNPL startup ZestMoney in a distress sale deal
