the app is designed to meet the growing needs of the ornamental fisheries sector, providing crucial knowledge resources for hobbyists, aquarium shop owners, and fish farmers. The event was attended by Shri George Kurian, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, along with other senior officials.
The "Rangeen Machhli" app provides multilingual information on popular ornamental fish species in eight Indian languages, making it accessible to a wide audience. Whether hobbyists are seeking guidance on fish care or farmers looking to diversify their breeds, the app offers comprehensive details on care, breeding, and maintenance practices.
One of its key features is the "Find Aquarium Shops" tool, which allows users to locate nearby aquarium shops through a dynamic directory updated by shop owners, promoting local businesses and connecting users with reliable sources for ornamental fish and aquarium-related products.
In addition, the app includes educational modules for both newcomers and professionals in the ornamental fish industry.The "Basics of Aquarium Care" module covers essential topics such as types of aquariums, fishes, water filtration, lighting,feeding, day to day maintenance, while the "Ornamental Aquaculture" module focuses on breeding, rearing of different ornamental fish.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra will launch the dedicated online web portal for monitoring of progress of Special Campaign 4.0 in a virtual meeting of Nodal Officers of Special Campaign 4.0, Nodal Officers of Public Grievances, and Appellate Authorities in all the 84 Ministries/ Departments of the Government of India.
The Government has decided that Special Campaigns for institutionalizing Swachhata and reducing pendency will be held every year from 2nd October- 31st October. The Special Campaign 4.0 will be preceded by the preparatory phase from 16th September to 30th September 2024.
The Special Campaign seeks to institutionalize Swacchata in all offices of the Government of India with a saturation approach. The three Special Campaigns in 2021, 2022 & 2023 cumulatively covered 4,04,776 Cleanliness Campaign Sites, freed 355 lakh sq. ft of space for productive utilisation and earned revenue of Rs. 1162 Crore by scrap disposal.
Many innovative initiatives were undertaken during the Special Campaigns, which were documented and released in the form of Assessment Reports during the Good Governance Week event in December. The Special campaigns have been led by Ministers, Ministers of State, and Secretaries of Ministries/ Departments.
Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Panchayati Raj, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh Alias Lalan Singh, launched "Amrit Catla," a genetically improved variety of Catla (Labeo catla), at the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA), Bhubaneswar.
The National Freshwater Fish Brood Bank (NFFBB) of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) received the Amrit Catla, ensuring its wider distribution and availability for farmers across the country. This development represents a significant milestone in freshwater aquaculture and aligns with the institute's efforts to enhance fish seed quality for,
India’s growing fish farming community. ICAR-CIFA began a selective breeding program in 2010 to improve the body weight of Catla at harvest, addressing the need for high-quality fish seed. The program collected nine strains of Catla, sourced from West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
These strains were utilized as the base population for the selective breeding program. Through the Combined Family Selection method, the breeding process was guided by phenotypic information and microsatellite markers. Superior animals were selected based on breeding value, and after four generations of breeding, a 15% genetic gain per generation was achieved,
leading to a cumulative gain of 35% by the third generation. Field trials conducted in Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, and Maharashtra demonstrated the improved Catla's ability to reach an average weight of 1.8 kg in polyculture systems, compared to 1.2 kg for local strains in one year.
Recently, the "Amrit Catla" project received national recognition with the Best Technology Award at the 96th ICAR Foundation and Technology Day on July 16, 2024, and was officially trademarked as "CIFA-Amrit Catla" on August 1, 2024.

Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy successfully conducted the flight test of the Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha, on September 12, 2024, at approximately 1500 hours.
The flight test was carried out from a land-based vertical launcher, targeting a high-speed aerial target flying at a low altitude. The missile system successfully tracked and engaged the target.
This test aimed to validate multiple updated elements of the weapon system, including the Proximity Fuse and Seeker.
The performance of the system was meticulously tracked and confirmed by various instruments such as Radar Electro-Optical Tracking System and telemetry deployed at ITR Chandipur.
Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh, praised the teams from DRDO and the Indian Navy for their achievement, stating that this test reaffirms the reliability and effectiveness of the VL-SRSAM weapon system.

The nominations for FIH elections were received by the August 31 deadline for the positions to be elected by the National Associations that are members of the FIH at its Statutory Congress.
Ikram has a long association with the sport. The former Pakistan and China hockey coach is a member of the IOC Olympic Solidarity Commission and has been an Executive Board member of the FIH since 2016. On 5 November 2022, he was elected as the 13th President of FIH.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹7,90,000/- (Rupees Seven lakh ninety thousand only) on Muthoot Vehicle & Asset Finance Limited (the company) for non-compliance with certain provisions of RBI directions on ‘Liquidity Risk Management Framework for Non-Banking Financial Companies and Core Investment Companies’ and,
‘Non-Banking Financial Company - Systemically Important Non-Deposit taking Company and Deposit taking Company (Reserve Bank) Directions, 2016’. This penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers conferred on RBI under the provisions of clause (b) of sub-section (1) of Section 58G read with clause (aa) of sub-section (5) of Section 58B of the Reserve Bank of India Act,1934.
