The 8th edition of India-Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2024 commenced at Surya Foreign Training Node, Auli, Uttarakhand. The exercise is scheduled to be conducted from 30th September to 13th October 2024. Joint Exercise KAZIND-2024 has been held annually since 2016. The last edition of the Joint Exercise was held at Otar, Kazakhstan.
The Indian Armed Forces, comprising 120 personnel, are being represented by a battalion of the KUMAON Regiment of the Indian Army, along with other arms and services, as well as personnel from the Indian Air Force. The Kazakhstan contingent will be represented mainly by personnel from Land Forces and Air Borne Assault Troopers.
The aim of the Joint Exercise is to enhance joint military capability of both sides to undertake counter-terrorism operations in a sub-conventional scenario under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The Joint Exercise will focus on operations in the semi-urban and mountainous terrain.
BSE and NSE have announced a revision to their transaction charges, effective October 1. The changes, disclosed will see an increase in fees for select segments. On the BSE, transaction charges for Sensex and Bankex options contracts will rise to ₹3,250 per crore of premium turnover.
However, charges for other equity derivatives, including Sensex Fifty and stock options, remain unchanged at ₹500 per crore of premium turnover.
NSE has also adjusted its fee structure across various segments. From October 1, a charge of ₹2.97 per lakh of trade value will be applied on both sides in the cash segment. In equity futures, the rate will be ₹1.73 per lakh, while
equity options will see a fee of ₹35.03 per lakh of premium value, applicable on both sides. Currency futures will incur a charge of ₹0.35 per lakh of trade value, while for currency options and interest rate options, the fee will be ₹31.10 per lakh of premium value.
The Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd. (MCX) also announced a revision in transaction fees for futures and options contracts, effective from October 1. MCX set the fee for futures contracts at ₹2.1 per lakh of turnover value, while options contracts will now incur a charge of ₹41.8 per lakh of premium turnover.
SEBI’s directive also includes a "true to label" policy, ensuring that fees charged to end clients must reflect the actual costs paid by trading members to the market infrastructure institutions, making the system more transparent and fair for all participants.
NATO will set up a new land command in Finland near the Russian border next year, tasked with leading the alliance's land force operations in northern Europe in the event of a military conflict, the Finnish defence minister.
Finland joined the NATO alliance last year, in response to neighboring Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine that began in 2022, and
is organising the alliance's presence on its territory.
The centre, which NATO calls Multi Corps Land Component Command, will operate under the alliance's U.S.-based Norfolk Joint Force Command and jointly with Finland's own land force command that is already located in Mikkeli, about two hour's drive from the Finnish-Russian border.
Finland and neighbouring Sweden, which also joined the alliance this year, said Sweden would coordinate visits of foreign NATO troops and international drills in northern Finland.
Sixteen years after acquiring land from the Karnataka government to expand their cricketing infrastructure, the BCCI inaugurated its new state-of-the-art National Cricket Academy, which will be known as the 'Centre of Excellence', on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah unveiled the facility to the officer bearers, which when fully functional from early 2025, will take over as board's primary centre for training, sports science, rehabilitation and injury management. The operations from the existing NCA premises at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium are expected to be shifted out in a phased manner.
The facility, housed in a 40-acre campus, comprises three grounds, built as per ICC's regulations to host first-class cricket, an indoor facility comprising surfaces imported from the UK and Australia apart from local surfaces - both red and black soil - and a vast expansive outdoor nets area featuring 45 pitches.
There is also a separate area designated to house BCCI's Sports Science and Medicine Block and lodging facilities. The main venue comprises modern floodlights, a sub-air drainage system, broadcast facilities and 13 red-soil surfaces brought in from Mumbai, which VVS Laxman, the NCA head, hopes can host 'A' tour games as soon as it is operational.

Renowned poet and former IPS officer Keki N Daruwalla, an inspiration to countless young writers and poets who looked at him as a mentor, died at a Delhi hospital night after a prolonged illness.
Daruwalla published his first volume of poetry in 1970, titled Under Orion, followed by Apparition in April (1971), Crossing of Rivers (1976),
The Keeper of the Dead (1982) – for which he won the Sahitya Akademi award in 1984 – and The Scarecrow and the Ghost (2004), among others. Apart from poems, Daruwalla was also a short story writer and a novelist – and Love Across the Salt Desert, a collection of short stories published in 2006, is one of his notable works, along with his novel Pepper and the Christ (2009).

Prime Minister Modi virtually inaugurated the Pune Metro section from District Court to Swargate, which also marks the completion of the Pune Metro Rail Project (Phase-1).
The cost of the underground section between the District Court to Swargate is around ₹ 1,810 crore, as per officials.
PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for the Swargate-Katraj extension of the Pune Metro Phase-1 to be developed at the cost of around ₹ 2,955 crore.
This southern extension of 5.46 km is completely underground with three stations, namely Market Yard, Padmavati and Katraj.
PM Modi also inaugurated Bidkin Industrial Area, a transformative project covering an expansive 7,855 acres under the National Industrial Corridor Development Program, situated 20 km south of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra.
The central government has approved this project with an overall project cost of more than ₹ 6,400 crore for development in three phases, they said.

The board of directors of private sector lender IndusInd Bank has approved the re-appointment of Sumant Kathpalia as the managing director and chief executive officer (MD&CEO) of the bank for a period of three years, the bank said in an exchange filing on Friday. The re-appointment will be effective March 24, 2025 upto March 23, 2028.
Kathpalia has been the MD&CEO of the company since March 24, 2020. Previously, the RBI approved a two-year extension to Kathpalia in March 2023 while the bank's board had approved his re-appointment for three years. Kathpalia is a seasoned banker, with over 3 and a half decades of experience, and has previously worked in large multi-national banks such as Citibank etc.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed an agreement that will help the collection and sharing of critical climate and weather data, advancing efforts to support climate adaptation and enhance regional climate coordination in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The agreement gives the IDB, as an implementing entity, access to financing through the Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF), which provides funding and technical assistance for countries to improve weather forecasts, early warning systems and climate information services.
The agreement also makes the IDB one of the first Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) to access a UN-administered Multi-Partner Trust Fund and exemplifies the work that MDBs have been doing with the UN and UN agencies to enhance collaboration.
SOFF is a financing mechanism established in 2021 by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), UNEP, and UNDP.
World No. 1 Test all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made history by becoming the third Indian cricketer to achieve the remarkable feat of scoring 3,000 runs and taking 300 wickets in Test cricket. Jadeja reached this milestone during the ongoing second Test match against Bangladesh at Green Park in Kanpur, where he dismissed Khaled Ahmed, marking his 300th wicket.
With this achievement, Jadeja joins the ranks of former Indian captain Kapil Dev and legendary spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who are the only other players in Indian cricket history to accomplish the double of 3,000 runs and 300 wickets in Tests. Jadeja’s milestone is particularly significant as he also became the first Indian left-arm spinner to achieve 300 Test wickets.
He is now the seventh bowler overall to take 300 or more wickets for India in the five-day format.
The record for the most Test wickets for India remains with Anil Kumble, who ended his career with 619 wickets in 132 matches. Ashwin stands second with 523 wickets, followed by Kapil Dev with 434.
