SEBI proposes optional T+0, instantaneous settlement for equity cash segment

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is contemplating the implementation of a same-day settlement cycle, known as T+0, in two phases. This is seen as a preliminary step towards instantaneous settlement.

The shorter T+0 settlement cycle is being considered for the equity cash segment as an optional mechanism, in addition to the current T+1 (Trade plus one day).

The Centre released ₹72,961.21 crore as tax devolution to States

Earlier, an installment of ₹ 72,961.21 crore was released on December 11, 2023. This is in addition to the tax devolution which is due to the States on January 10, 2024.

Of this latest ₹72,961.21 crore installment disbursed, the largest share has gone to Uttar Pradesh at ₹13,088.51 crore, followed by Bihar at ₹7,338.44 crore and Madhya Pradesh at ₹5,727.44 crore.

India’s forex reserves reach $615.97 billion, the highest in 20 months

India’s foreign exchange (FX) reserves rose for the fifth time in the week ending December 15, touching an over 20-month high of $615.97 billion- the highest level since March 2022.

In the previous week ended December 8, reserves had risen by $2.82 billion to $606.86 billion, as per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data.

They had touched an all-time high of $645 billion in October 2021.
