What is SSC JE Selection Process 2026?

 

The Selection Process 2026 includes Paper I, Paper II, and Document Verification. A major change this year is that Paper I is qualifying in nature, while the final merit and allotment are based on Paper II marks and the candidate's post/organization preference.

  • Paper I: Objective-type Computer-Based Examination. It is qualifying in nature and is used to shortlist candidates for Paper II.
  • Paper II: Objective-type Computer-Based Examination of the relevant engineering/technical subject. Paper II marks are used for final merit.
  • Document Verification: Conducted by the concerned User Department for provisionally shortlisted candidates after the declaration of the final result.

Note: The minimum qualifying marks in Paper I and Paper II are 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS, and 20% for all other categories.

The SSC JE Exam Pattern of Paper 1 consists of objective-type questions covering General Awareness, General Intelligence & Reasoning, and the respective engineering subject chosen by the candidate.

  • Both Paper I and Paper II consist of objective-type Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Questions are available in Hindi and English only.
  • There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer in Paper I.
  • A scientific calculator is available on the computer screen during the examination. Physical calculators and tables are not allowed inside the exam lab.

SSC JE Paper 2 is an objective-type Computer-Based Examination, not a descriptive exam. It consists of 100 questions carrying 300 marks, based on the technical subject selected by the candidate. The normalized marks obtained in Paper II are used to determine the final merit.

SSC JE Exam Shift Timings for Paper I is expected to be conducted in three shifts: Shift 1 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Shift 2 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, and Shift 3 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Based on last year's schedule followed by SSC, shift timings are as follows:
