SEBI Grade A Exam Pattern 2025 for both Phase 1 & Phase 2

SEBI Grade A Exam Pattern: The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) conducts the SEBI Grade A exam to recruit Assistant Managers across various streams, including General, Legal, Information Technology, Research, and Official Language. The exam follows a structured selection process consisting of three phases: Phase 1 (Preliminary Exam), Phase 2 (Mains Exam), and Phase 3 (Interview). As per the SEBI Grade A Exam Pattern, Candidates must clear each stage to secure a position in SEBI.

 

SEBI Grade A 2025 Exam Pattern

 

To know the SEBI Grade A Exam Pattern, it is important to know the selection process of this exam in detail. There are three three stages which are provided below:

  • Phase 1 – Preliminary Examination:
    This is an online objective-type screening test. It includes Paper 1, which assesses general aptitude across four subjects, and Paper 2, which is stream-specific and tests your core domain knowledge. Only candidates who qualify Phase 1 will be allowed to appear for Phase 2.
  • Phase 2 – Mains Examination:
    The second phase is more in-depth. It includes a descriptive English writing paper to assess communication skills and a second paper focused again on stream-specific subjects. Marks obtained in Phase 2 are crucial for the final merit list.
  • Phase 3 – Interview:
    Candidates who qualify Phase 2 are shortlisted for the Interview. This round tests your personality, confidence, domain understanding, and awareness of SEBI's role and functions. Performance in the interview plays a significant role in final selection.

 

SEBI Grade A Phase 1 Exam Pattern 

 

Phase I is the online screening examination consisting of two papers of 100 marks each. The Paper 1 is for 100 marks to be attempted in 60 minutes and the cut off is 30%. For Paper 2, the maximum marks is 100, the duration is 40 minutes and the cut off is 40%. The aggregate cut off for both the papers will be 40%.

Important Note:

  • Negative Marking: 1/4th for both papers in Phase 1.
  • Marks secured in Phase 1 will not be counted in final selection.

The Phase II will be further divided into two papers of 100 marks each. The candidates can check out the detailed SEBI Grade A Syllabus. SEBI Grade A Interview Pattern

 

The weightage of Interview for final selection of SEBI Grade A will be 15% and the rest will be of Phase II. For Interview, the candidates can either opt Hindi or English.

SEBI Grade A Marking Scheme 2025

 

The SEBI Grade A Exam Pattern 2025 includes objective-type questions in both Paper 1 and Paper 2 of Phase 1. In Phase 2, Paper 1 is a Descriptive English Test, while Paper 2 remains objective (except for the IT stream where it may differ). The marking scheme for SEBI Grade A rewards correct responses and penalizes incorrect ones, as detailed below. The inclusion of negative marking discourages guesswork and ensures that candidates with a solid understanding of the subjects perform better.
