World Tuberculosis Day 2024

World Tuberculosis (TB) Day is marked annually on 24 March, the anniversary of the discovery of the causative mycobacterium by Dr Robert Koch.

The day aims to raise awareness about the devastating health, social, and economic consequences of the disease, which remains a global pandemic with 1.8 billion people estimated to be infected with the bacteria, acc. to WHO.

This year’s theme – ‘Yes! We can end TB!’ – conveys the message that there is hope in making this a possibility.

TB is an infectious disease that most commonly affects the lungs, although it can spread to other organs too, including the brain or kidneys.

Norway will invest half of $100 billion under EFTA: Norwegian envoy May-Elin Stener

India has signed a trade pact with EFTA countries — Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein — aiming to attract $100 billion and to create one million jobs in 15 years in exchange for tariff concessions for their pharma, chemical, and minerals.

Switzerland being the largest player is likely to contribute more than half of the $100 billion free trade pact India recently signed with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), while Norway will bring in the rest, with Iceland and Liechtenstein contributing as well, Norwegian Ambassador to India.

Operation ‘Indravati’ begins to evacuate Indians from Haiti to the Dominican Republic: Jaishankar

India has started Operation Indravati to evacuate its nationals from Haiti to the Dominican Republic and asserted that it was “fully committed” to the security and well-being of Indians abroad.

The move comes days after India had said it was looking at evacuating up to 90 of its nationals from Haiti given the deteriorating security situation in the Caribbean nation.

On Friday, IT services and consultation company Tech Mahindra said it collaborated with American technology firm IBM to set up a ‘Synergy Lounge’ in its Sinin Singapore campus, to assist enterprises in operationalizing and deriving value from next-gen technologies.

Built on the Hex-I concept, the Lounge will feature different experience zone zones focusing on various technologies that will help enterprises solve complex business problems, improve customer experiences, reduce operational costs, and enhance workforce efficiency.
