Mukhyamantri Sampoorna Pushti Yojana
Mukhyamantri Sampoorna Pushti Yojana: In a significant move aimed at enhancing the overall health and well-being of its residents, Odisha’s Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, has introduced the “Mukhyamantri Sampoorna Pushti Yojana.” This initiative, coupled with the complementary “Pada Pushti Yojana,” represents a concerted effort to meet the nutritional needs of mothers, adolescent girls, and children within the state. The launch of these programs underscores the government’s commitment to improving the nutritional status of its citizens and building a healthier future.
The Mukhyamantri Sampoorna Pushti Yojana: Empowering the Vulnerable
The Yojana is a comprehensive program designed to combat malnutrition and enhance the nutritional well-being of Odisha’s most vulnerable groups—mothers, adolescent girls, and children. This multifaceted program includes various initiatives aimed at ensuring that everyone has access to proper nutrition.
- Targeted Support for Malnourished Children: Under this scheme, comprehensive meals will be provided to severely malnourished children. Moderately underweight children will receive eggs and vitamin-enriched “chhatua” (roasted gram flour) as part of their diet, while very underweight children will receive full meals to aid their recovery.
- Nutritional Supplements for Pregnant Women and New Mothers: Pregnant women and new mothers will benefit from the provision of dry food supplements, ensuring they receive essential nutrients during this crucial phase of life.
The Pada Pushti Yojana: A Complementary Initiative
In tandem with the Mukhyamantri Sampoorna Pushti Yojana, the “Pada Pushti Yojana” focuses on delivering freshly prepared nutritious meals to children residing in rural and tribal areas, particularly in remote regions.
The Significance of Nutrition in Development
Addressing a gathering at the Lok Seva Bhawan Convention Center, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik emphasized the close connection between nutrition and success. He highlighted the pivotal role of improved nutrition in achieving the state’s developmental objectives, acknowledging that mothers play a fundamental role in the success of these programs.
Odisha’s Ongoing Commitment to Nutrition
Odisha’s commitment to addressing nutritional challenges has been unwavering. In 2020–21, it became the first state in India to establish a dedicated nutrition budget. The Mamata Yojana, which focuses on the well-being of pregnant women and young infants, has consistently provided essential care and support. The launch of this Yojana reaffirms Odisha’s dedication to enhancing the nutritional well-being of its citizens, paving the way for a healthier future for all.
