Psychometric tests are increasingly becoming an integral part of many selection/ recruitment processes. And bank recruitments are no exception to this. In fact, BOB Manipal PO have made psychometric tests a part of their selection procedure (since BOB Manipal PO 2016).

Since this type of testing is fairly new there are a lot of doubts and queries regarding the same. In this article, we will try to address all those questions in detail.

1. What are Psychometric Tests ?

These are tests designed to assess a person’s personality characteristics, aptitude and cognitive abilities in order to see a candidate’s suitability for a particular role. They identify the extent to which candidates’ personality and cognitive abilities match those required to perform the role.

These tests have standardized questions and the results are examined statistically.

2. What type of questions are asked in these tests?

One of the question types is designed to check how would you arrive at a decision (examining your decision making process). This assesses your work related personality. For eg. :

Statement : There is no room for errors in a professional environment.

Your options would be something like this:

  • Strongly Agree
  • Agree
  • Neutral
  • Disagree
  • Strongly Disagree

The second type of questions are the ones that examine how you would react to certain situations. For eg. :

A poor woman comes to the bank to open an account. While going through the documents you found that some of them are forged, you will –
(a) Call the Police and hand her over to them
(b) Report to your seniors
(c) You will open the account anyway, since she’s a poor woman
(d) You’ll request her to get more documents

Now, if you choose option :

(a), this implies you abide by the rules, come what may. It shows obedience and loyalty towards the organisation.
(b), this implies that you’re confused and instead of arriving at a decision yourself, you’d rather have someone else take a call.
(c), this shows your emotional side and that you may jeopardise ethics for how you feel.
(d), this shows your emotional awareness and that you’re willing to give second chances.

3. How to approach the questions in a psychometric test?
First of all you should know, that for BOB Manipal PO Exam, the psychometric test is only qualifying in nature.
