Focusing on Railway Expansion: The Janjatiya Gaurav Corridor

Strategic Railway Project Approvals: Zonal Perspective for Comprehensive Connectivity

In the context of railway development in India, projects like Janjatiya Gaurav Corridor are strategically sanctioned based on the Zonal Railway approach, rather than being confined to specific State, District, or Area boundaries. This approach is chosen due to the expansive nature of railway endeavors, which often span multiple regions, ensuring seamless integration of rail networks.

Projects falling under the ambit of the Janjatiya Gaurav Corridor, including those situated within the State of Odisha, undergo meticulous planning. This comprehensive process involves consultations with various stakeholders, such as State Governments, public representatives, organizations, rail users, and tribal communities. The Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for these initiatives meticulously delineate parameters based on variables like traffic projections and socio-economic advantages.

Progress in Railway Surveys: Contributions from Odisha

In the past three years spanning FY 2020-21 to FY 2023-24, a total of 32 surveys, encompassing 19 new lines and 13 doubling projects, with a cumulative length of 1,467 km within the State of Odisha, have been successfully concluded. These surveys play a pivotal role in assessing feasibility and project viability.

Criteria Guiding Project Advancements

The advancement of new line projects, including those encompassed by the project, hinges on multiple criteria. Considerations such as economic viability, closing last-mile gaps, bridging missing links, exploring alternate routes, enhancing congested lines, and socio-economic factors are meticulously evaluated. Project progression also depends on ongoing commitments, funding availability, and competing demands.

A Continuous Journey of Project Approval

The process of sanctioning railway projects is a continuous and evolving one, adapting to emerging needs and priorities.
