National Games 2023: The 37th edition of the National Games, scheduled for 2023, is all set to grace the picturesque state of Goa. After multiple postponements and shifts in hosting rights, the event is finally slated to take place from October 26 to November 9, marking a historic occasion as Goa makes its debut as the host.

A Journey Through National Games’ History

Origin and Early Years: The National Games, originally known as the Indian Olympic Games, had its inception in 1924 in Lahore, undivided India.

Hosting Challenges: Goa was initially designated as the host for the 36th edition of the National Games, planned for 2016. However, due to a series of delays, the event took place in Gujarat the following year.

Expanding the Horizon of National Games

Record-Breaking Sports: The National Games in 2023 is breaking records by featuring an impressive 43 sports, encompassing both Olympic and indigenous disciplines, marking a significant increase from the 36 sports in the previous edition.

Newcomers: Several sports will make their debut at the National Games, including Kho Kho, yogasana, and mallakhamb.

Venue Diversity: Multiple venues across Goa will host various sporting competitions, with cycling and golf events set to take place in New Delhi.

Defending Champions and Top Contenders

Services Sports Control Board: In the previous edition held in Gujarat, the Services Sports Control Board emerged as champions, representing the Indian Armed Forces. They secured a remarkable 128 medals, including an impressive 61 golds.

Maharashtra: Maharashtra closely followed with 140 medals, including 39 golds, establishing themselves as strong contenders.

Haryana: Haryana was not far behind with an impressive 38 gold medals, contributing to their total tally of 116 medals. These three states will undoubtedly be teams to watch in the upcoming National Games.
