The Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) conducts the Meghalaya PSC Combined Competitive Exam to appoint candidates across various departments. The Meghalaya PSC Selection process consists of three stages: Prelims, Mains, and Personality Test/Interview. The Prelims, lasting 2 hours, is of qualifying nature and includes objective-type questions for 200 marks. Successful candidates proceed to the descriptive-type MPSC Meghalaya Mains exam, which features one qualifying paper, five required subjects, and two optional subjects. Meghalaya PSC Selection Process

The competitive examination conducted by the Meghalaya PSC comprises two successive written stages and one Interview stage:
(i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type) for the selection of candidates for
Main Examination; and
(ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the Meghalaya Civil Service.

The written examination consist of 8 papers of conventional essay type in the subjects set out in sub-section (B) of Section II out of which one paper will be of qualifying in nature. Marks obtained in Interview for Personality Test will be counted for ranking. Marks thus obtained by the candidates in the Main Examination (written part as well as
interview) would determine their final ranking.

MPSC Selection Process 2024 Prelims

The MPSC Meghalaya Prelims exam 2024 consists of two compulsory papers, Paper I and Paper II. Each papers consists multiple choice questions and carries 200 marks. The duration of each paper is 2 hours. The prelims exam serves as screening phase.

Paper I covers General Studies and consists of questions on Current Events, History of India and the Indian National Movement, Indian and World Geography, Indian Polity and Governance, Economic and Social Development, General issues on Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change, and General Science etc. While, Paper II consists questions from General English, Aptitude and Mental Ability which is qualifying in nature.

MPSC Selection Process 2024 Mains

The MPSC Meghalaya Mains Exam consists eight papers including two optional papers. The nature of this exam is descriptive type. The paper list includes papers from English, Essay writing and four General Studies papers. The first paper English is a qualifying paper which carries 300 marks and the time duration for this paper is 3 hours. The marks obtained in Paper I from Paper V is counted for merit list. There is no any penalty for the wrong answers in the Mains exam. Candidates may choose any one of the optional subjects from amongst the list of subjects.

MPSC Selection Process 2024 Interview

In the interview conducted by the Commission, the candidate’s career record is thoroughly examined, aiming to evaluate their suitability for a public service career. Questions cover general topics, testing mental aptitude, social attributes, and awareness of current affairs. Traits assessed include mental agility, critical thinking, communication skills, judgment, diverse interests, leadership potential, and moral integrity. The interview is a purposeful conversation, not a strict cross-examination, revealing the candidate’s mental attributes. It doesn’t focus on specialized or general knowledge, previously tested in written papers. Candidates are expected to exhibit intelligent curiosity and awareness of ongoing events, locally and globally. The MPSC Interview is conducted for 200 marks.
