Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan: A momentous stride towards fostering a drug-free and enlightened India took place as the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). The event, graced by the Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, Dr. Virender Kumar, and attended by senior officials from the Department and esteemed members of ISKCON, unfolded in New Delhi.
Empowering NMBA through Spiritual Collaboration:
Addressing the audience, Dr. Virender Kumar underscored the significance of involving religious and spiritual organizations in the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA). He expressed confidence that partnering with ISKCON would amplify endeavors to cultivate a drug-sensitized society. The minister stressed the pivotal role of such collaborations in disseminating the NMBA message across diverse demographics, including youth, women, and students.
Advocacy for Public Awareness:
Dr. Virender Kumar urged ISKCON to actively disseminate information about the NMBA campaign during their meetings and gatherings. He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to executing programs that offer treatment, widespread publicity, and community engagement through more than 550 voluntary organizations nationwide.
Navchetna Module: A Transformative Endeavor:
Details about the Navchetna module were shared by the minister, emphasizing its role in enhancing awareness and education on life skills and drug abuse among school students in India. The primary objective is not merely to mitigate the onset of drug abuse among school children but to eradicate it entirely. The training material for Navchetna is undergoing translation into 12 regional languages, and each module will be accessible online through the Diksha Portal, facilitating teachers.
Setting Ambitious Benchmarks:
Dr. Kumar delineated the Ministry’s ambitious targets, aiming to cover 300 districts, 30,000 schools, 10 lakh teachers, and 2.4 crore students within a year through the Navchetna module. He envisions this initiative as a transformative force in the trajectory of the Drug-Free India Campaign (NMBA).
Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Milestones:
The NMBA, operational in all districts of the country, has achieved noteworthy milestones:
a. Over 10.71 crore individuals reached through diverse on-ground initiatives.
b. Selection and training of 8,000 Master Volunteers entrusted to lead Abhiyaan activities.
c. Active participation of more than 3.37 crore youth, fostering collaboration with numerous youth organizations.
d. Pivotal contribution from 2.26 crore women through Anganwadi & ASHA Workers, ANMs, Mahila Mandals & Women SHGs.
e. Leveraging technology and social media effectively to disseminate the Abhiyaan’s message online.
f. Development of an Android-based mobile application for real-time data capture of on-ground activities.
