RRTS Full Form

RRTS stands for “Regional Rapid Transit System”. It is a high-speed, high-capacity rail system that is designed to connect major cities and towns in a region. RRTS systems are typically faster and more efficient than traditional commuter rail systems, and they can help reduce traffic congestion and air pollution.

About Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor

The 17-kilometer priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor, to be inaugurated, will link Sahibabad to the ‘Duhai Depot.’ This stretch includes stations at Ghaziabad, Guldhar, and Duhai. The foundation stone for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor was laid by the Prime Minister on March 8, 2019.

The Regional Rapid Transit System project aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision to enhance regional connectivity by constructing new, world-class transport infrastructure. RRTS is a revolutionary rail-based, semi-high-speed, high-frequency commuter transit system. With a design speed of 180 kilometers per hour, RRTS is a transformative regional development initiative designed to offer high-speed train services for intercity commuting every 15 minutes, with the capability to increase frequency to as often as every 5 minutes as needed.

About Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS)

PM Launches India’s First Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS)

A total of eight RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System) corridors have been identified for development in the National Capital Region (NCR), and three of these have been prioritized for implementation in Phase-I. These three corridors include the Delhi – Ghaziabad – Meerut Corridor, the Delhi – Gurugram – SNB – Alwar Corridor, and the Delhi – Panipat Corridor. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS, with an estimated cost of over Rs 30,000 crore, will connect Delhi to Meerut in under an hour, passing through urban centers such as Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Modinagar.

The RRTS being developed in India represents a state-of-the-art regional mobility solution, on par with the best in the world. It will provide a safe, reliable, and modern intercity commuting option in the country. In alignment with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, the RRTS network will integrate extensively with other modes of transportation, including railway stations, metro stations, and bus services. These transformative regional mobility solutions are expected to boost economic activity in the region, improve access to employment, education, and healthcare opportunities, and significantly reduce vehicular congestion and air pollution.

Bengaluru Metro

The Prime Minister is set to formally dedicate two metro stretches to the nation. These stretches connect Baiyappanahalli to Krishnarajapura and Kengeri to Challaghatta. Although these metro stretches were already opened for public service on October 9, 2023, to provide convenience to the public commuting in this corridor, the formal inauguration will take place now. This signifies the government’s commitment to improving urban transportation and enhancing connectivity for the citizens.
