Rajasthan VDO (Village Development Officer) Salary and Job-Profile

RSSB board (Jaipur) Rajasthan Staff Selection Board has released the Rajasthan VDO (Village Development Officer) Recruitment notification. As per the Rajasthan RSMSSB VDO Notification PDF, a total of 3896 Vacancies have been announced for the post of Village Development Officer (also known as Gram Vikas Adhikari). In this blog, we will look into the salary and job profile of Rajasthan VDO.


Rajasthan VDO Salary:

The state government of Rajasthan has fixed the Rajasthan VDO salary according to pay matrix level-6.

When a candidate gets posted as Gram Vikas Adhikari (VDO) in a Rajasthan Government Department, then he/she will serve as a probationary trainee for a period of 2 (Two) years. During this probationary period, a fixed remuneration of Rs. 15100 (Fifteen Thousand one hundred) per month is given to the candidate. Other than this Rs. 15100 per month, no allowances i.e. DA HRA, etc. will be given during the probation period. However, candidates will be given leaves and other benefits as mentioned in Rajasthan service rules.

After the probation period:

After the probation period, the newly appointed candidate will be posted as VDO. gets salary as The candidate gets the salary as per Level 6 of Rajasthan 7th pay matrix which corresponds to Pay Band PB-1 Rs. 5200-20200 with grade pay of Rs. 2400. The Starting basic pay of Rajasthan VDO is Rs. 5200 with a grade pay of Rs. 2400 (existing grade pay no. 9A). This is equivalent to Rs. 21500 as per the 7th Pay Matrix of Rajasthan. Maximum Basic pay of Gram Vikas Adhikari post is Rs. 68000 given after several years of service. But meanwhile, candidates get higher posts depending on their qualifications and experience.

Rajasthan VDO Salary: Allowances & Benefits:

Apart from a good salary, Rajasthan VDO officers also get some allowances and benefits that are listed below.

  1. Dearness Allowance (DA): Dearness Allowance is paid by the government to offset the impact of inflation as the effective salary of government employees requires constant enhancement to help them cope up with the increasing prices of goods and services to maintain their standard of living.
  2. House Rent Allowance (HRA): It means the component of salary received towards the rent payment and it is allowed as a deduction from taxable salary. The costs incurred are taken care of by the Government.
  3. Transport Allowance (TA): It is an allowance given to meet commuting expenses. Along with these allowances some other perks like leaves, paid holidays, travel concessions, incentives, medical facilities, health insurance etc. are given.

Village Development Officer (VDO) is a state government employee who is responsible for the overall development of a village. He/she is an administrative officer. The VDO has to work for the village with the Gram Pradhan and various responsibilities come along with this post. Rajasthan VDO job profile comprises of various duties which are mentioned below:

  • The Gram Pradhan being the representative of the village figures out all the problems of the village and reports it to the VDO. The VDO is responsible for finding the solutions of such problems.
  • A VDO must look after the proper implementation of the rural development programmes and commissions initiated by the state as well as the central government.
  • A VDO must communicate with the senior officers at the Taluka and District level for better implementation of various development programmes.
  • Along with it he/she must be ready to face any kind of obstacles that may arise in the implementation of rural development plans.
  • A VDO must get the villagers involved in different community and entrepreneurial activities.
  • A VDO must ensure that all the villagers are getting benefited with the various rural development schemes which are implemented to make the villagers’ lives better.
  • A VDO must look after the sanitation of the village, improving water security, manure storing, energisation of street lights, betterment of rural roads, solid waste management systems etc.
  • A VDO must keep records of agricultural crops and changes in agriculture which is
  • the backbone of the village economy. Along with it he/she should be making efforts for the development of industries and commerce.

Rajasthan VDO Career Growth and Promotion:

All the candidates working under the government have steady career growth. The VDO is first promoted to ADO after working for 12 to 13 years. After working as an ADO for 8 to 9 years they can be promoted to Block Development Officer (BDO).
