Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel, addressed the media in New Delhi, providing insights into the second edition of World Food India 2023. He highlighted that World Food India aims to showcase the sector’s potential to global stakeholders and represents a unique example of a collaborative approach across various government departments.
Notably, 11 central Ministries/Departments and their associated autonomous bodies are actively participating in this event. Shri Patel emphasized that India, as one of the fastest-growing economies, presents numerous investment opportunities, particularly in the food processing sector.
Second Edition of World Food India 2023
- The second edition of World Food India 2023, a global mega food event, is set to be organized by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) from November 3rd to November 5th, 2023, at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
- The event will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, at the iconic Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan on November 3rd, in the presence of Shri Pashupati Kumar Paras, Union Minister of Food Processing Industries.
- The valedictory address on November 5th will be delivered by Hon’ble President, Shrimati Draupadi Murmu.
- In this edition of World Food India, the Netherlands will be the ‘Partner Country,’ and Japan and Vietnam are designated as ‘Focus Countries.’


Major Attractions
The experiential Food Street, thoughtfully curated by Celebrity Chef Ranveer Brar, is poised to be the main attraction for both food enthusiasts and industry professionals. It spans across three zones and features a sustainable food theater with a focus on Shree Anna, also known as millets. The pavilions within the Food Street showcase regional cuisines from various corners of India, including street food and culinary delights from the royal heritage of the country.
A remarkable attempt to set a Guinness Record is also in the works, aiming to create the world’s longest dosa. This culinary feat will involve the collective efforts of 60 to 80 chefs, coming together to craft a millet dosa that spans over 100 feet in length, underscoring the dedication and skill of the team behind this extraordinary endeavor.
First Edition of World Food India 2017
World Food India 2017 marked the inauguration of this event, driven by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. The theme for this first edition was “Transforming the Food Economy”. The primary objective of the event was to showcase India’s multifaceted and vibrant food culture to the global community, emphasizing the country’s role in shaping the future of the food industry. It served as a platform to promote investment, innovation, and collaboration within the food processing sector.
International Year of Millets 2023
In celebration of the International Year of Millets 2023, a grand installation consisting of 50,000 tetra-pack containers of millet beverages will be crafted and distributed to underprivileged children. Additionally, the expected 75,000 visitors over the course of three days will have the opportunity to enjoy cultural programs, featuring dance and musical performances.
The triumph of World Food India 2023 is poised to establish a Global Food Event in the country, positioning it alongside similar prestigious events held worldwide. This event not only showcases India’s culinary and cultural diversity but also its commitment to food sustainability and innovation.

- India proposed observing an International Year of Millets in 2023, which was approved by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in 2018.
- The UN General Assembly has declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets, following the adoption of a UN Resolution.
- India led the proposal, which was supported by over 70 nations.
Objectives
The objectives of the International Year of Millets are –
- To increase awareness of the contribution of millet to food security and nutrition.
- Inspire stakeholders to improve sustainable production and quality of millet.
- Focus on enhanced investment in research and development and extension services to achieve the other two aims.
