Success Story of Nikhil Kumar – Cleared SBI PO 2019

Read the Success Story of Nikhil Kumar, a graduate from Bihar, who never considered himself weak and inspite of prior failure, he never lost hope and went on to clear SBI PO 2019 Exam.

Inspiring Success story of Nikhil Kumar:

My name is Nikhil Kumar. I am from Muzaffarpur, a small town in Bihar. I graduated in Microbiology from University of Delhi in 2018. When I joined college, my future plans were all about research and innovation but in course of time, it changed and I switched to the preparation of UPSC CSE after the completion of my graduation. After about 8 months of UPSC CSE preparation, I realised I need a full time job and then I switched to the preparation of banking examination in February this year.

Exams Appeared till now:

  1. SBI PO 2018– Couldn’t clear prelims
  2. IBPS PO 2018– Couldn’t clear prelims
  3. Combined Defence Services Examination 2 2018– Cleared written but missed interview
  4. SBI PO 2019– Final Selection
  5. EPFO ASO  2019– Couldn’t clear prelims

Journey/Strategy:

So, during my first attempt of SBI PO, I appeared only because I had filled the form. I didn’t even know the syllabus then and I only attempted one mock test before the actual examination. As a result I couldn’t clear the first stage itself. Same happened with me in IBPS PO also as I was involved too much into my UPSC CSE preparation. But, in my opinion, always keep yourself ready for the exams you’re appearing for. The one silver lining in all this was that I became aware of my potential.

So, in February 2019, I joined an offline class and also started learning the same concepts form a good number of educational channels on youtube.

English Preparation Strategy for SBI PO

I was good in english so I kept my preparation for this subject confined to extensive & analytical reading of newspapers, blogs and quora. Additionally, I also used to watch lessons of Oliveboard [Harshita Ma’am’s approach is one of the best when it comes to teaching English]. My advice for aspirants would be to read as much as you can because English is a language and it should be treated so. It takes time to learn a language, so an aspirant shouldn’t be disheartened in a short span of time.

Reasoning Preparation Strategy for SBI PO

I used to solve questions from videos on youtube. I used to set a daily target of 300 different types of questions. It helped me to refine my approach & increase my problem solving speed.

Quantitative Aptitude Preparation Strategy for SBI PO

My achilles heel. I used to fear quants. Similar to other subjects, Educational channels on youtube also played a bigger role in my preparation. A daily target of 300 questions helped me a lot. The live classes from Oliveboard were also extremely helpful in getting my concepts clear.

GA Preparation Strategy for SBI PO

For GA, I used weekly and monthly capsules as I found studying it daily a tiring task. The good thing that I did was to cover it from different sources to ensure that I miss nothing important.

Interview Preparation Strategy for SBI PO

Attended mock interviews and utilized Oliveboard’s mock interview videos.

Oliveboard’s role in my preparation-

I frequently started using Oliveboard during March-April. Until then I was already overburdened with mocks of offline class. Hence, I made the daily sectional tests like a daily ritual for me and the one small thing that I have enjoyed most on Oliveboard’s App was Question of the Day. I used the monthly 100 Questions GA quiz on Oliveboard to gauge my preparation & then there were youtube videos of Oliveboard. For IBPS PO 2019, I also enrolled for the IBPS PO Cracker Course and attempted the mocks provided with the course.

Tips & Words of Advice

The  most important thing for any individual is self esteem. In my 22 years of life, I have never considered myself inferior of failure. For me Shahrukh Khan or Sachin Tendulkar is admirable only because of their work but I have always put myself above anyone else in terms of my education/work. Many would call it overconfidence but for me it is my way of life. I have appeared only in those examinations where eligibility has been at least graduation and I also never appeared for any clerk examination as I believe, why settle for less when you can achieve more.

So, my friends believe in yourself, practice as much as you can, don’t get disheartened by what anyone says and you will be and feel successful in no time.
