For the Assistant Geologist position in the Groundwater wing of the Water Resources Department, candidates must possess a Master of Science degree in Geology or applied Geology or a Master of Science (Technology) degree in Hydrogeology from any University recognized by the University Grants Commission. Practical experience in field work is preferred.

For the Assistant Geologist position in the Geology and Mining Department, candidates must have an M.Sc. degree in Geology from any University. Practical experience in field work is also preferred, with preference given to candidates who possess such experience.

The minimum age requirement for the mentioned position is 18 years, while the maximum age allowed is 32 years.

Firstly, there will be a Written Examination where candidates will be evaluated based on their performance in the exam. The written examination will cover various subjects and topics relevant to the position. The marks obtained by the candidates in the written examination will be taken into consideration for further evaluation.

Secondly, there will be an Oral Test, which will be conducted in the form of an interview. This oral test aims to assess the candidates’ communication skills, subject knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and overall suitability for the position. The interview panel will ask questions related to the field of expertise and relevant job responsibilities.

The final selection of candidates will be based on the total marks obtained in both the Written Examination and the Oral Test. These marks will be considered together, taking into account the rule of reservation of appointment. The rule of reservation ensures that appointments are made in accordance with the specified quotas for various categories such as SC (Scheduled Caste), ST (Scheduled Tribe), OBC (Other Backward Classes), and other applicable reservations.

Ultimately, the candidates with the highest combined marks in the Written Examination and Oral Test, while adhering to the rule of reservation, will be selected for the position.

On August 18, 2023, the examination for the Assistant Geologist position will take place. The exam will be conducted in two papers, Paper-I and Paper-II.

Paper-I will be conducted from 09:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. and will cover the subject of Geology at the P.G. Degree Standard. Candidates will have a duration of three hours to complete this paper.

Paper-II will be conducted from 02:30 P.M. to 05:30 P.M. The paper consists of two parts: Part A and Part B. Part A is the Tamil Eligibility Test, which will be conducted at the SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) Standard. Part B is the General Studies paper, which will be conducted at the Degree Standard. Candidates will have three hours to complete this paper as well.
