1) PM Narendra Modi launched a comprehensive pension management software SAMPANN to facilitate pensioners of the telecom department. SAMPANN is an acronym for System for Accounting and Management of Pension, will help in timely disbursement of pensions.

2) Croatia and Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has been named Balkan Athlete of the year. Men’s tennis world number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia was second in the Balkan poll, and the Women’s number one, Romania’s Simona Halep, was third.

3) Sports ministry has embarked Rs.100 crore for funding the athletes under the “Target Olympic Podium Scheme” (TOPS) ahead of 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. The flagship scheme of the government will nurture future sporting athletes.

4) Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the renaming of three islands of Andaman and Nicobar, Ross Island has been renamed as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep, the Neil Island would now be known as Shaheed Dweep and the Havelock Island as Swaraj Dweep.

5) Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League has registered a landslide victory in Parliamentary elections. The ruling Awami League-led coalition won more than 260 seats in the 300-member House. Sheikh Hasina is the Prime Minister of Bangladesh since 2009.

6) Smriti Mandhana was adjudged ‘Women’s Cricketer of the Year’ & the ‘Women’s ODI Player of the Year’ by the ICC. Mandhana became only the second India woman player to win an ICC award after Jhulan Goswami, who was named the ICC player of the year in 2007.

7) Allahabad Bank and SBI Life Insurance came together and signed a bancassurance pact, to offer a holistic financial planning solution to consumers. This will empower the consumer to address their complete financial needs under one roof.

8) RBI sets up MSME panel. The 8-member committee under UK Sinha will examine the factors affecting the timely & adequate availability of finance to the MSME sector. The panel will submit its report by June 2019. RBI allowed one-time restructuring of existing debt up to ₹25 Cr for MSME.

9) The cricket coach credited for discovering Sachin Tendulkar, Ramakant Achrekar died. He was 87. Besides Tendulkar, he also coached some prominent players in Vinod Kambli, Pravin Amre, Sameer Dighe and Balwinder Singh Sandhu.

10) 25 states achieved 100% household electrification under PM Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya). Assam, Rajasthan, Meghalaya & Chhattisgarh are left to be electrified. The Scheme aims to achieve universal household electrification by 31 March 2019.

11) Jair Bolsonaro has been sworn in as the 42nd president of Brazil. He was elected president in the October 2018 elections, defeating Fernando Haddad. He addressed Brazil’s liberation from socialism, inverted values, bloated state & political correctness.
