Preparing for government exams is rarely a straight journey. It often involves multiple attempts, setbacks, and constant improvement. Dhruvraj Singh’s success in SSC CGL 2024 is a great example of how persistence and the right strategy can eventually lead to success. The story of how Dhruvraj Singh cracked SSC CGL 2024 after leaving his Engineering job is one of determination and dedication.
Dhruv, who belongs to the Baran district of Rajasthan, secured the Senior Secretariat Assistant post in the Atomic Energy Department through SSC CGL. His journey was not easy. Before reaching this milestone, he appeared for several competitive exams and came very close to selection multiple times. Instead of getting discouraged, he used each attempt as a learning opportunity and kept improving his preparation.
His story highlights an important lesson for SSC aspirants: success often comes from identifying mistakes and continuously refining your strategy.
From Electrical Engineer to Government Job Aspirant
Dhruv completed his Electrical Engineering degree from JCRC University, Jaipur and graduated in 2020. Like many engineering graduates, he started working in the private sector soon after college.
He worked for around two years before deciding to shift toward government exams. According to Dhruv, the environment around him played an important role in this decision.
Where I come from, government jobs carry a lot of respect. Even if someone earns well in the private sector, it doesn’t get the same recognition.
In 2022, he left his job and began preparing seriously for competitive exams. Among the various options available, SSC CGL became his main focus because its syllabus covers multiple subjects and also helps in preparing for other government exams.
Multiple Exams Along the Journey
During his preparation, Dhruv appeared for several exams. Each attempt helped him understand the exam pattern better and identify areas that needed improvement.
Some of the exams he attempted include:
- SSC CHSL, where he reached the final stage but couldn’t clear the typing test
- EPFO SSA, where he qualified till the final stage
- SSC CPO 2023, where he scored 158 marks in Tier 1
- SSC MTS, which he successfully cleared
Although he came close to selection multiple times, Dhruv continued focusing on SSC CGL, which remained his primary goal.
Identifying the Weak Areas
After appearing for SSC CGL 2023 mains, Dhruv realized that a few sections were affecting his overall score. When he analyzed his performance, two weak areas stood out:
- English vocabulary
- General Knowledge
Instead of collecting more study material, he simplified his preparation and focused mainly on previous year questions.
Most vocabulary questions in SSC exams come from previous years’ papers. Once I started focusing on those words, English became much easier.
This strategy helped him understand the exam pattern better and improve his performance.
Section-Wise Preparation Strategy
Once Dhruv identified his weak areas, he worked on each subject with a structured plan.
English and GK
For English, Dhruv focused primarily on previous year vocabulary questions. Over time, this helped him become comfortable with the types of words commonly asked in SSC exams.
For GK, he noticed that many questions are repeated across certain topics, such as census data and important static GK facts. By analyzing previous papers and revising frequently asked topics, he gradually improved his accuracy.
Quantitative Aptitude
Mathematics was Dhruv’s favorite subject. His engineering background helped him handle arithmetic topics comfortably.
However, SSC CGL also includes advanced topics such as trigonometry, algebra, geometry, and mensuration. To prepare for these, he studied concepts through online lectures and made handwritten notes for revision. After completing the concepts, he practiced extensively through topic-wise questions and Oliveboard’s previous year’s papers.
Why Mock Tests Were Important
Mock tests played a major role in Dhruv’s preparation. After completing most of the syllabus, he started attempting full-length mock tests regularly to simulate the real exam environment.
According to him, mocks helped improve both speed and accuracy.
My favorite platform for mocks was Oliveboard because the questions were moderate and very close to the actual exam level.
More importantly, Dhruv made sure to analyze every mock test carefully. He reviewed the questions he got wrong, the ones he skipped, and the questions where he spent too much time. This helped him gradually reduce mistakes and improve time management.
The Moment the Results Were Declared
Dhruv’s long preparation journey finally paid off in 2024. Interestingly, both SSC MTS and SSC CGL results were declared on the same day, just before Holi.
At the time, he was in Jaipur.
The SSC MTS result came in the evening, and later that night the SSC CGL result was declared. I was selected in both exams.
He immediately called his parents to share the news. After years of preparation and support from his family, the moment felt incredibly rewarding.
Dhruvraj Singh’s Advice for Aspirants
Having experienced both failures and success, Dhruv believes that consistency is the most important factor in exam preparation.
His advice for aspirants is simple:
- Stay consistent with your preparation
- Focus on previous year questions
- Practice regularly with mock tests
- Learn from your mistakes
Failures happen to everyone. But if you keep working hard and stay consistent, success will definitely come.
Dhruvraj Singh’s journey shows that success in exams like SSC CGL comes from steady improvement rather than overnight results. By focusing on weak areas, practicing consistently, and analyzing mistakes, he was able to convert multiple near misses into final selection.
