For many bankers, preparing for JAIIB alongside a full-time job can seem difficult. Long working hours, limited study time and four papers to prepare for can make the exam feel overwhelming. Ravindra Saini, a Scale II Manager posted in Manipal, Karnataka, faced the same challenge. Yet, with a structured approach and consistent revision, he managed to clear JAIIB in his first attempt.
After spending seven to eight years in banking, Ravindra had been thinking about appearing for JAIIB for almost two years. He knew the qualification could add value to his career, but the demanding nature of his job kept him from taking the exam.
When he finally decided to attempt it, he wanted to do it in one go.
Finding a Way to Study Alongside a Banking Job
Ravindra knew that finding long hours for preparation was not realistic. He therefore focused on making the limited time available to him more productive.
He followed the class schedule, attending sessions either in the morning or evening depending on his work routine. On days when he reached home late, he would watch the recorded sessions at double speed. A one-hour class could be completed in around 30 minutes, allowing him to stay on schedule.

His Simple but Effective Revision Strategy
Revision became the most important part of Ravindra’s preparation.
After attending a few sessions, he would download the class PDFs and combine them into a single document. Whenever he got a few free minutes, he would go through the material again. Every Sunday, he would revise the content covered during the week.
The idea was simple: see the same concepts repeatedly rather than trying to memorise everything at once.
He followed this approach across the different JAIIB papers. Subjects that were unfamiliar initially required more effort, but repeated exposure gradually made the concepts easier to recall.
He also found that different teaching approaches helped him understand challenging topics. For instance, detailed explanations and handwritten notes helped him approach numerical and conceptual areas with greater confidence.
Why Concept Clarity Mattered in JAIIB
Ravindra believes that JAIIB preparation cannot depend entirely on last-minute revision.
The exam, according to his experience, included lengthy questions that required candidates to understand what was actually being asked. Those with strong fundamentals could identify the requirement of a question faster.
His own preparation therefore focused on understanding concepts first and revisiting them multiple times.
He believes that the repeated cycle of learning, revision and practice is what eventually makes concepts stick.
What Role Did Mock Tests Play?
Because of his work schedule, Ravindra could not attempt a large number of mock tests. However, the tests he did attempt helped him identify his weak areas.
After taking an Oliveboard mock test, he noticed that he was struggling with a few Economics topics. Instead of simply moving on to another test, he went back to those areas, revised the concepts and looked at the questions he had got wrong.
For him, a mock test was valuable not just for measuring a score, but for answering a more important question: Where am I still making mistakes?
His Message to JAIIB Aspirants
Ravindra’s biggest takeaway from the journey is that working bankers should not be intimidated by JAIIB. At the same time, he cautions aspirants against assuming that the exam can easily be cleared with only a few days of preparation.
His advice is to start early, build a strong foundation and give yourself enough time for repeated revision.
There may be days when work takes priority, but consistency matters more than studying for long hours every day.
For Ravindra, a few months of discipline and sacrifice were worth it. Clearing JAIIB not only gave him a sense of professional achievement, but also added another milestone to his banking career.
His journey is a reminder that you do not need unlimited time to prepare for JAIIB. You need a realistic plan, consistent effort and the discipline to keep following it.
