What was the PFRDA circular on investment choice options for CAB subscribers?

PFRDA issued the circular “Enhancement of Investment Choice Options under NPS for subscribers of Central Autonomous Bodies (CABs)”. The circular relates to the investment choices available to NPS subscribers of Central Autonomous Bodies (CABs).

Following an Office Memorandum issued by the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, on 1 July 2026, PFRDA expanded the existing investment choice options available to CAB subscribers. Two additional Auto Investment Choice options were introduced.

The two new options are:

  • Life Cycle 75 – High
  • Life Cycle – Aggressive

With the introduction of these two options, the total number of investment choice options available to CAB subscribers increased to six. This update is important as this scheme did not introduce a new pension scheme. It expanded the investment choice options available under NPS for CAB subscribers.

What is NPS PRIDE-DISHA introduced by PFRDA?

PFRDA issued the circular “Introduction of NPS PRIDE-DISHA (Pension Fund Returns for Informed Decision & Empowerment): A Subscriber Awareness and Decision Support Digital Tool Kit”. NPS PRIDE-DISHA is a digital tool designed to help NPS subscribers understand the historical performance of different Pension Funds and investment choices.

The full form of PRIDE-DISHA is: Pension Fund Returns for Informed Decision & Empowerment

The main purpose of the tool is to provide subscribers with information that can support their investment decisions. Instead of simply looking at point-to-point returns, the tool allows historical performance to be assessed using periodic contributions and the XIRR methodology.

How does NPS PRIDE-DISHA work?

The tool uses historical scheme-wise NAV data dating back to 2008. It uses thousands of days of historical NAV data to compare different investment combinations. PFRDA’s tool provides historical comparisons rather than predicting future returns. Subscribers can use the tool to understand how their retirement corpus would have accumulated under different investment choices based on historical data.

Is NPS PRIDE-DISHA a return prediction tool?

No. NPS PRIDE-DISHA uses historical data to compare past performance. It does not predict future returns or provide future performance estimates. PFRDA has positioned the tool as a decision-support and awareness tool, not as a forecasting or investment advisory tool.

What is the PFRDA update on Pension Agents and PoPs?

PFRDA issued a circular permitting Points of Presence (PoPs) to engage other persons as Pension Agents for the distribution of pension schemes. The circular was issued under Regulation 2(1)(j)(iv) of the PFRDA (Point of Presence) Regulations, 2018. It allows additional categories of entities to act as Pension Agents, subject to the conditions specified by PFRDA. One important category specifically covered by the circular is Cluster-Based Business Organisations (CBBOs).

PoPs can engage eligible CBBOs as Pension Agents when these organisations have been empanelled, appointed or engaged by Central Government Ministries or Departments, State Governments, or implementing agencies for the formation, promotion or handholding of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs).

The circular mentions agencies such as:

  • Small Farmers’ Agri-Business Consortium (SFAC)
  • National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED)
  • National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC)
  • National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD)
