  • Protecting vital installations certain air-fields against paratroopers/raids/enemy commandos
  • Holding a strong point along with other units to provide an extension to the wings of the primary defence line
  • Carrying out special tasks connected with intelligence, such as raids
  • Acting as a guide in an area of responsibility, where they know the routes
  • Limited aggressive action against the paramilitary within the overall plan of the Armed Forces
  • Maintaining order and law in enemy territory, that is controlled by the army
  • Provision of escorts

  • The grade pay for the post of SI in Border Security Force is Rs.4200
  • The pay band is PB-2(9300-34800)
  • In-hand salary is Rs.35000

Promotion and Career Growth of BSF  Sub-Inspector

The scope of promotion depends on the merits of the candidate.

Internal tests are conducted for promotion.

The first promotion from an SI to the rank of an Inspector takes about 3 years, provided an impeccable service record and 2 years of command of a Platoon in a service coy.
