CSIR-NIScPR marked the 82nd Foundation Day of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on October 10, 2023, at the CSIR-NIScPR campus. The event featured Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki, renowned as the “Solar Man of India” and the founder of the Energy Swaraj Movement, as the Chief Guest.
The program commenced with a Welcome Address by Prof. Ranjana Aggarwal, the Director of NIScPR. Prof. Aggarwal extended a warm welcome to all the attendees, initiating the proceedings on a positive note. The celebration was a significant event for CSIR-NIScPR, highlighting the importance of scientific research and innovation in India.
This year’s foundation day was unique in the sense that all the CSIR laboratories came together on a single platform and showcased their achievements collectively.
About CSIR Foundation Day
During the 82nd CSIR Foundation Day celebration at CSIR-NIScPR, the Chief Guest, Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki. He delivered a lecture titled “Six-Points Understanding of Climate Change and Corrective Actions”. In his lecture, Prof. Solanki shared valuable insights on energy conservation with the CSIR-NIScPR community.

He emphasized that the improper use and consumption of energy are contributing to significant issues like Climate Change. Prof. Solanki introduced his approach, known as AMG (Avoid, Minimize, and Generate), to promote judicious energy use. He explained that we can make a substantial impact by avoiding one-third of energy consumption that is unnecessary, minimizing energy wastage through the use of energy-efficient appliances, and generating one-third of the required energy. This approach can lead to energy savings and help address major challenges like Climate Change. The Chief Guest also highlighted the vital role that individuals play in the broader context of energy conservation.
Key Activities
The 82nd CSIR Foundation Day celebration at CSIR-NIScPR included several significant events:
- Book Releases: The first-ever Biannual Report (2021-2023) of CSIR-NIScPR. Showcasing its achievements and contributions to science communication and science policy was jointly released by the Chief Guest and the Director-NIScPR. Additionally, another publication titled ‘Annual Journey: The Magic of Migration’ by Dr. Sukanya Dutta was also released during the event.
- Felicitation of Retired Employees: The program included the felicitation of retired employees from NIScPR who have played a crucial role in its success over the years. As well as those who have completed 25 years of service.
- Cultural Program: A captivating cultural program featuring performances by talented students and staff of CSIR-NIScPR, showcasing music, dance, and other artistic expressions.
- Prize Distribution: The event recognized and celebrated the outstanding talent within the CSIR-NIScPR community. A prize distribution ceremony for the winners of various competitions held in anticipation of the Foundation Day celebration.
