India Africa Fellowship: India, as part of its commitment to international collaboration in education and research, extends a generous offer of 75 fellowships annually for African nationals in Agriculture and allied sciences. This initiative, managed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Agricultural Universities (AUs) system, aims to foster academic exchange and contribute to the development of human resources in the field.

Fellowship Availability and Host Universities

The fellowship program encompasses 50 slots for M.Sc. and 25 for Ph.D. studies, spanning four years. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to pursue their studies at renowned Indian agricultural universities within the ICAR-AUs system. This system comprises 53 State Agricultural Universities, five research institutes, one Central Agricultural University, and four Central Universities with Agricultural Faculty. These institutions are recognized globally for their significant contributions to research and human resource development.

Infrastructure and Facilities

All Indian AUs boast excellent facilities, including laboratories, instructional farms, libraries, computer centers, hostels for both genders, and sports and recreational amenities. To enhance the experience for international trainees, well-furnished international student hostels are available across various campuses.

The list of host universities, including State Agricultural Universities, ICAR-Deemed Universities, and Central Agricultural Universities, can be accessed on the ICAR website or the Agricultural Education Portal. Benefits of the Fellowship Program

Fellowship for two years at INR 12,000 per month for M.Sc. and three years at INR 15,000 per month for Ph.D.
India-Africa Fund of the Government of India (MEA/DARE) covers these fellowship amounts.
Covers tuition, hostel fees, mess, medical, contingency, and domestic travel expenses.
Cost of air tickets, travel, and visa borne by MEA through the Indian Mission in the respective African country.
Annual bench fee of US$ 4,000 per candidate covered under the India-Africa Fund.

Eligibility Criteria for Enrollment

Strong command of English required for enrollment.
M.Sc. program requires a four-year Bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject.
For M.V.Sc. program, candidates must pass B.Sc. & AH. with an internship.
Doctoral program requires a Master’s degree in the relevant subject.
Eligibility criteria include a GPA of 6.5/10 or equivalent for general category candidates and 6.00/10 or equivalent for SC/ST/PH category candidates at the Master’s degree level.

Application Process and Selection Procedure of India Africa Fellowship

Online application process.
African nationals apply through their governments for sponsorship.
Applications forwarded to the African Union Commission, then to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in India.
MEA forwards applications to the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) for eligibility consideration and recommendation.
Final selection and admission communicated by the university, accompanied by a recommendation letter from ICAR/DARE.

Documentary Requirements

Fellows must present all original qualification documents for verification at the time of admission.
Some Indian universities may require depositing original documents, returned upon course completion.
