Fourth Krishi Roadmap Bihar

Fourth Krishi Roadmap: In a significant event on October 18, 2023, the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, introduced Bihar’s fourth Krishi Road Map (2023-2028) in Patna. This roadmap charts a course for Bihar’s agriculture in the coming years. During her address at the launch, the President stressed the vital role of agriculture in Bihar and its substantial impact on the state’s economy.

Agriculture’s Pivotal Position in Bihar

The President emphasized that agriculture is deeply ingrained in Bihar’s culture and serves as the foundation of its economy. Not only does it provide livelihoods for nearly half of the state’s population, but it also makes a substantial contribution to Bihar’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Bihar’s Agricultural Progress Story

President Murmu commended the Government of Bihar for its unwavering commitment to agricultural development. Since 2008, the state has been implementing various Agriculture Road Maps, resulting in remarkable improvements. These initiatives have nearly doubled the productivity of staple crops such as paddy, wheat, and maize. Bihar has also risen to prominence as a producer of mushroom, honey, makhana, and fish.

Embracing Tradition and Modernity

The President praised Bihar’s farmers for their dedication to agriculture and their openness to new farming methods. She cited the famous economist who once likened Nalanda’s farmers to scientists. The President commended Bihar’s farmers for successfully integrating traditional farming methods with modern practices, showcasing the harmonious coexistence of tradition and modernity.

The Potential of Organic Farming: Fourth Krishi Roadmap

President Murmu encouraged Bihar’s farmers to tap into the growing demand for organic products. Organic farming, she noted, not only helps reduce the cost of agriculture but also promotes environmental conservation. It has the potential to increase farmers’ income and provide nutritious food to the people. She also praised the government’s initiative to establish an organic corridor along the Ganga to promote organic farming.

Addressing Climate Change Challenges

The President underscored the critical issue of global warming and climate change, which disproportionately affect the vulnerable. She expressed concern about Bihar’s declining rainfall in recent years and highlighted the importance of water conservation. Climate-Resilient Agriculture, she explained, can play a pivotal role in addressing climate change challenges by promoting biodiversity, reducing water resource exploitation, preserving soil fertility, and ensuring balanced food production.

Maize Ethanol Production for a Greener Future

The President was pleased to note that Bihar is producing ethanol from maize, a major crop in the state. This development is a significant step toward reducing dependence on fossil fuels, safeguarding the environment, and enhancing the nation’s energy security.

The Path to Comprehensive Development: Fourth Krishi Roadmap

President Murmu stressed the significance of Bihar’s contribution to realizing the dream of a developed India. To achieve this goal, she called for a departure from narrow-minded thinking and the adoption of holistic development approaches. The state’s policymakers and citizens must collaboratively set a roadmap for progress, encompassing various aspects such as health, education, per capita income, and the Happiness Index. This, she emphasized, is the path to a brighter future for Bihar.
