The Indian Railways has become a coveted career platform for the youth today. There are Railway Jobs 2021 For 12th Pass available in Group A, Group B, Group C, and Group D. At present; there are about 11 railway recruitment boards functioning all over the country. Job notifications are regularly issued through these recruitment boards to fill the required vacancies. The Ministry of Railways had set up a Railway Recruitment Control Board (RRCB) to coordinate and streamline the working of RRBs, and in the year 1998, all RRBs came under the direct control of the Ministry. At present, we have a total of 21 Railway Recruitment Boards functioning from different states of India. The examinations held by the RRBs for various Indian railway jobs after the 12th standard are-

  • RRB Non-technical Popular Categories (RRB NTPC)- 
  • RRB Assistant Loco Pilot and Technician (RRB ALP)
  • RRB Group D

This examination is held to fill the vacancies for different undergraduate posts under Non-Technical Popular Categories. This recruitment is done to fill in the vacancies in the zonal railways and production units of the Indian Railways. The hiring for Group D is done by the Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) at the divisional level. Some of the posts in this group are the gunman, Safaiwala, Trackman, peon, tracker and others.

The Recruitment Board of Railways (RRB) conducts Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) exams on a regular basis. This examination is held to fill the vacancies for various undergraduate posts under Non-Technical Popular Categories. This recruitment is done to fill in the vacancies in the zonal railways and production units of the Indian Railways.

 Selection Process

The selection process stages under RRB NTPC are:

  1. Stage I- Computer Based Test (CBT)
  2. Stage II- Computer Based Test (CBT)
  3. Typing Skill Test/ Computer Based Aptitude Test (as applicable)
  4. Document Verification/ Medical Examination

RRB NTPC Eligibility – Physical Fitness

Candidates shortlisted for the document verification have to pass the physical fitness test taken by the Railway Administration. Candidates clearing the medical test and fit to carry out the duties are considered in the merit list. Below are the medical standards.

  • The RRB NTPC examination will be a computer-based test.
  • It will be an objective type multiple choice question examination.
  • The total number of questions is 100.
  • Each question carries 1 mark.
  • Negative marking is applicable. For every wrong answer or multiple answers to one question, 1/3 marks will be deducted.
  • The time duration of the examination is 1.5 hours (90 minutes).
  • The examination duration for PWD candidates is 2 hours (120 minutes).

Minimum Passing Marks

  1. UR (Unreserved)- 40 per cent 
  2. SC (Scheduled Castes)- 30 per cent
  3. OBC- NCL (Other Backward Classes- Non-Creamy Layer)- 30 per cent
  4. EWS (Economically Weaker Sections)- 40 per cent
  5. ST (Scheduled Tribes)- 25 per cent

These percentages of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2 per cent for PwBD candidates in case of a shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.

  • The RRB NTPC examination is a computer-based test.

RRB NTPC Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

  • Candidates who apply for the post of Traffic Asst. and Station Master need to take the CBAT
  • Candidates must secure a minimum T-Score of 42marks in each test battery to qualify. This applies to all categories, and no relaxation in the minimum T-Score is provided. 
  • Candidates must qualify in each test battery of CBAT to be considered for recruitment. 
  • The CBAT has questions and answers options in both English and Hindi. Negative marking is not applicable. 
  • Merit list will be made only from amongst the candidates qualifying in the CBAT, with 70 per cent weightage for marks obtained in Stage- II CBT and 30 per cent weightage for marks obtained in CBAT.

Typing Skill Test (TST)

  • This test is qualifying in nature.
  • Eight times the number of vacancies will be called for typing test.
  • The candidates should type 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi on a Computer without the editing tools and spell check facility.

Document Verification (DV)

Based on the performance of the candidates, they will call them for document verification.
