Subroto Cup 2023: The 62nd edition of the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament, India’s most enduring national inter-school football event, is poised to make history by expanding its host cities to include Bengaluru, often referred to as the Silicon Valley of India. Traditionally held in Delhi and Gurugram, this prestigious competition is scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 23, 2023, across three diverse venues.

Expanding Horizons: A New Era for the Subroto Cup

For many years, the Subroto Cup has been a platform for showcasing young football talent in India. In a significant move to broaden its reach, this year’s tournament organizers have included Bengaluru as a host city. This decision reflects the tournament’s commitment to reaching every corner of the nation and providing aspiring footballers from diverse regions with a national stage to display their skills.

A Multifaceted Tournament with Three Age Categories

The 62nd Subroto Cup introduces three distinct age categories, each with its own set of teams and venues:

Under-17 Junior Boys and Girls Tournaments (Delhi-NCR): Matches for the Under-17 category will take place in the Delhi-NCR region at renowned venues such as the Ambedkar Stadium, Tejas Football Ground (Delhi), Subroto Football Ground (Delhi), and the GD Goenka School (Gurugram). This category anticipates fierce competition among some of India’s most promising young football talents.

Under-14 Sub-Junior Boys Competition (Bengaluru): Bengaluru assumes a central role in the Sub-Junior Boys category, featuring matches at the ASC Centre, the Air Force School in Jalahalli, and the Air Force School in Yehalanka. This expansion enriches the tournament’s diversity and provides a thrilling opportunity for budding footballers in Bengaluru to showcase their skills.

A Diverse Lineup of Competitors

The 62nd Subroto Cup boasts participation from 109 teams representing 27 Indian states and Union Territories. Adding an international dimension, teams from Bangladesh and Nepal will also join the competition. With over 180 matches scheduled across these three categories, football enthusiasts can eagerly anticipate an electrifying and action-packed tournament.

Defending Champions and Aspiring Contenders

In the junior boys’ category, Pilgrim Higher Secondary School from Dimapur, Nagaland, defends their coveted title. Meanwhile, St. Patrick’s School from Gumla, Jharkhand, seeks to maintain their reign in the junior girls’ category. In the sub-junior boys’ category, Heirok Higher Secondary School from Imphal, Manipur, holds the championship, aiming to secure another triumphant victory.
