Success Story of Nikhil Singh Sengar – AIR 149 – SSC CGL 2016

This blog contains the Success Story of Nikhil Singh Sengar. He had secured 149th All India Rank in the SSC CGL 2016 Exam. In his success story, he has also shared his preparation strategy. The Preparation plan shared by Nikhil would prove beneficial for all the SSC CGL Exam Aspirants preparation. Following is Nikhil in his own words -:

Success Story of Nikhil Singh Sengar

“Hello Everyone, I am Nikhil Singh Sengar and have cleared SSC CGL in 2016. I am from Madhya Pradesh and have done my B.Tech from MNIT Bhopal in 2014. After getting a degree in Mechanical Engineering, I joined an MNC and worked there for next one and a half years.

I was never satisfied while working in an MNC and I always wanted to get a Government job. I knew clearing an exam like SSC CGL along with my job wasn’t going to be easy but I never lost hope. I tried and kept a balance between my exam preparation and job. Soon my dedication showed colors and I was able to clear the first stage of SSC CGL, 2016. For the main exam, I went to Delhi for my further preparation in order to clear this exam with good rank.

I left no stone unturned and scored AIR 149 in SSC CGL 2016. Its has been a journey with great learning curve and I am privileged that Oliveboard has given me an opportunity to share my preparation tips with the aspirants today.

Preparation Tips:

Quants:

Maths has always been my strong point and I knew that the right amount of practice will help me to score well in this section.I referred the book named “7300+ SSC Mathematics By Rakesh Yadav”  which proved very beneficial in my preparation.

I would advise everyone to clear their basic concepts and be well versed with all the formulas, tables, rules etc to solve the questions easily. Please give last 2-3 years papers as many a times the questions are repeated.

Reasoning :

This is quite easy section among the rest in SSC CGL exam. You can score well with some good amount of practice. Just try and solve different types of questions and you are good to go.

English:

I referred the book name “Plinth to Paramount by Neetu Singh”. It’s always good to follow one book and prepare yourself best from it. Never make a mistake to refer more than one or two books at a time as they will create more confusion instead of clearing your concepts.

You can also refer Kiran’s English Book to practice previous years papers. To work on your vocab do read editorials from HINDU. It will not only improve your vocab & reading skills but also help you to prepare for your descriptive section in best possible way.

GK/GA :

To be honest, I focussed more on the above three sections and prepared for GK/GA in the last 15 days. Never try to cover everything and anything. Try to focus on important sections like Polity, History, Geography etc.I referred NCERT book for Gk which was quite helpful.You can also refer Lucent’s General Knowledge Book.

Descriptive:

As already said that editorials plays an important role in preparing  this section.Read editorials from good newspapers like HINDU & TIMES OF INDIA. Generally essays related to current topics are asked in the exam so keep yourself updated with them. You can also refer topic that comes in UPSC Exams for the same.

For letter writing, check the different types of formats and do practice them once. Also try and analyse the writing style and the pattern to score well in this part.

Tips to Aspirants:

Two years back when I started my preparation, we did not have enough choices to do our preparation online in order to clear the exam. Having said that, we were mostly left with an option to join some or the other coaching institute to clear these Government exams with good rank.

But if I had an idea about such online platforms like Oliveboard then may be there was no need to join a coaching institute.So guys make most out of these online courses to clear the exam and always keep yourself motivated.

Remember the path may be difficult but not impossible.”
