For the Assistant Geologist position in the Groundwater wing of the Water Resources Department, candidates must possess a Master of Science degree in Geology or applied Geology or a Master of Science (Technology) degree in Hydrogeology from any University recognized by the University Grants Commission. For the Assistant Geologist position in the Geology and Mining Department, candidates must have an M.Sc. degree in Geology from any University. Practical experience in field work is also preferred, with preference given to candidates who possess such experience.

Firstly, there will be a Written Examination where candidates will be evaluated based on their performance in the exam. On August 18, 2023, the examination for the Assistant Geologist position will take place. The exam will be conducted in two papers, Paper-I and Paper-II.

Paper-I will be conducted from 09:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. and will cover the subject of Geology at the P.G. Degree Standard. Candidates will have a duration of three hours to complete this paper.

Paper-II will be conducted from 02:30 P.M. to 05:30 P.M. The paper consists of two parts: Part A and Part B. Part A is the Tamil Eligibility Test, which will be conducted at the SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) Standard. Part B is the General Studies paper, which will be conducted at the Degree Standard. Candidates will have three hours to complete this paper as well.
