UPSC CSE Age Limit 2024

To be eligible for the UPSC CSE, a candidate should be at least 21 years old but not older than 32 years as of August 1, 2024. This means the candidate must have been born between August 2, 1992, and August 1, 2003.

  1. The Commission recognizes the date of birth entered in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate. Alternatively, it should be as per a certificate acknowledged by an Indian University as equivalent to Matriculation.
  2. Candidates are required to submit the certificate supporting their date of birth only when applying for the Civil Services (Main) Examination.
  3. No other documents pertaining to age, such as horoscopes, affidavits, birth extracts from Municipal Corporation, service records, etc., will be accepted. Only the specified certificates are considered valid for establishing the candidate’s date of birth.

UPSC CSE Nationality/Citizenship

  1. For the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and the Indian Police Service (IPS), a candidate must be a citizen of India. 
  2. For other services, a candidate must be either: —
    •  a citizen of India, or
    •  a subject of Nepal, or
    •  a subject of Bhutan, or 
    •  a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or 
    • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.  
  • Candidates falling under categories (b), (c), (d), and (e) are required to possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

UPSC CSE Educational Qualification 2024

Candidates must hold a Graduate degree from a university recognized by the central or state legislature in India or institutions declared as deemed universities under the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.

  1. Candidates awaiting the results or intending to appear in the final year of their qualifying examination are eligible for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination.
  2. Candidates qualified for the Civil Services (Main) Examination must provide proof of passing the qualifying examination along with their application. This proof should be issued by the closing date of the Detailed Application Form-I for the Main Examination.
  3. In special circumstances, the Commission may consider a candidate without the specified qualifications if they have passed an examination deemed equivalent by the Commission.
  4. Candidates with professional and technical qualifications recognized by the Government as equivalent to a degree are eligible for the Civil Services Examination.
  5. Candidates who have passed the final professional M.B.B.S. or any equivalent medical examination but haven’t completed their internship by the Main Examination application submission can provisionally apply, provided they submit a copy of their certificate along with the application.
