Hockey: Hardik Singh wins FIH men’s player of the year award; Savita Punia adjudged best goalkeeper
Indian hockey players Hardik Singh and Savita Punia have won major awards at the FIH Hockey Star Awards for the 2023 season. Singh was named the men’s player of the year while Punia won the best women’s goalkeeper of the year award.
The voting process for the awards involved an expert panel and national associations which involved team captains, coaches, fans, and media.
Manipur Health Minister Launches SAANS Campaign 2023-24 to Tackle Pneumonia
In Manipur, the State Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh launched the Social Awareness and Action to Neutralise Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) Campaign 2023-24 at Imphal.
The Minister also inaugurated the State Newborn Resource Centre at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal.
After a year of waiting, RBI grants at least six payment aggregator licenses
After over a year of waiting, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) granted its final approval for at least six payment aggregator licenses, thus lifting the ban on entities such as RazorPay and Cashfree Payments for acquiring new merchants.
The final nod for the payment aggregator license has come for Razorpay, Cashfree Payments, Open Financial, EnKash, Google Pay, and Payment India.

Nine books of poetry, 6 novels, 5 short story collections, three essays, and one literary study have won the Sahitya Akademi Awards this year. Tamil author Rajasekaran has been chosen for his novel Neervazhi Padooum, Telugu writer Patanjali Sastry for his short story collection, and Malayalam litterateur EV Ramakrishnan for his literary study Malayala Novelinte Deshakalangal.
Judge Advocate General Department celebrates 40th Corps Day
The Judge Advocate General (JAG) Department, the judicial and legal wing of the Army responsible for the dispensation of justice to all ranks is celebrating its 40th Corps Day today 21st Dec 2023. It was on this day in 1949 wherein the Bill for the Army Act was introduced in the Parliament.

India Records 112 Deaths in 2022 from Tiger Attacks
The Centre informed that in 2022 a total of 112 deaths took place in the country due to tiger attacks. In a written reply to Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Forest, Environment and Climate Change Bhupinder Yadav informed that the highest number of deaths is 85 in Maharashtra followed by 11 in Uttar Pradesh. He said during the past five years 302 people died in tiger attacks.
ISRO Bags Leif Erikson Lunar Prize For Chandrayaan-3 Mission
ISRO was awarded the 2023 Leif Erikson Lunar Prize by the Exploration Museum in Iceland’s Husavik for its successful Chandrayaan-3 mission.
The award celebrates the first soft landing of a spacecraft near the lunar south pole and ISRO’s indomitable spirit in advancing lunar exploration and contributing to understanding celestial mysteries.
The Leif Erikson Award is an annual prize given by the Exploration Museum since 2015.
WHO S-E Asia Director Poonam Khetrapal Singh awarded Bhutan’s National Order of Merit Gold Medal
Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director of WHO South-East Asia, and a retired Punjab cadre IAS officer of the 1975 batch has been awarded Bhutan’s prestigious National Order of Merit Gold Medal for her distinguished services to the country.
The King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk honoured Singh at Bhutan’s 116th National Day celebration.
Net FDI into India touches 21-month high at $5.9 billion in October
The net foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country at $5.9 billion rose to a 21-month high in October 2023, primarily due to strong gross inflows and lower repatriation.
Sequentially, net FDI rose from $1.54 billion in September 2023 and $1.16 billion in October 20222, according to Reserve Bank of India data.
INS Shivaji Gets Original ‘Vir Chakra’ Awarded To 1971 War Hero

India’s total debt rises to Rs 205 lakh crore in Sep quarter
The country’s total debt, or the total outstanding bonds that are being traded in the market, rose to USD 2.47 trillion (Rs 205 lakh crore) in the September quarter, according to a report.
The total debt amount in the March quarter of the previous fiscal was USD 2.34 trillion (Rs 200 lakh crore).

PMBJP achieved generic medicines sales of Rs 1,000 crore this year
The government said the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) achieved a landmark of selling generic medicines worth Rs 1,000 crore this year.
A total savings of about Rs 5,000 crore was made by people who purchased medicines from the Jan Aushadhi Kendras, which are present in more than 785 districts across the country, an official release said.

MSME Minister Narayan Rane launched three sub-schemes under the ministry’s existing RAMP ((Raising and Accelerating MSME Productivity) program to encourage the adoption of sustainable technology in business, boost the circular economy, and address delayed payments issues.
Union Minister Bhupender Yadav launched a NITI Aayog report, ‘A Green and Sustainable Growth Agenda for the Global Economy’.
In a collaborative effort, NITI Aayog, in partnership with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and Global Development Network (GDN), published a report, ‘A Green and Sustainable Growth Agenda for the Global Economy’ based on the proceedings of the G20 international conference held in New Delhi on 28-29 July 2023, featuring 40 leading experts from 14 countries.
