The IBPS Clerk examination, officially conducted as the Common Recruitment Process for Customer Service Associates (CRP-CSA), requires candidates to balance speed, accuracy and time management. For the 2026 cycle (CRP-CSA-XVI), the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for 10 and 11 October 2026, while the Main Examination is scheduled for 27 December 2026, as per the IBPS calendar.

IBPS Clerk Dos

Candidates should follow a focused preparation strategy and also pay attention to the examination-day instructions. IBPS has specified rules regarding documents, prohibited items, unfair means and candidate conduct, making it important to check the latest call letter and instructions before reaching the examination centre.

1. Do Follow the Latest Exam Pattern

Before beginning preparation, understand the structure of both stages. The IBPS Clerk/CSA recruitment is conducted through Prelims and Mains, and candidates shortlisted from Prelims appear for Mains. The 2026 recruitment calendar schedules the CSA-XVI Prelims for October and Mains for December.

2. Do Practise With a Timer

Speed is important in bank examinations. Solve sectional tests within the prescribed time limit and gradually improve your attempts without compromising accuracy.

3. Do Practise Previous-Year Questions

Previous-year questions help candidates understand the types of questions generally asked in Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English. Analyse the questions after every practice session instead of simply checking the score.

4. Do Take Regular Mock Tests

Full-length and sectional mocks help improve time management and question selection. After every mock, identify questions that took too much time, concepts that need revision and avoidable errors.

5. Do Strengthen Your Calculation Speed

For Quantitative Aptitude, practise simplification, approximation, percentages, fractions, ratios and other calculation-based topics regularly. Faster calculations can help save valuable examination time.

6. Do Revise Current Affairs and Banking Awareness for Mains

Candidates preparing for Mains should regularly revise current affairs, banking awareness and financial awareness. Since the Mains examination is scheduled for December 2026, preparation should include current affairs from the relevant months closer to the examination.

7. Do Check Your Call Letter Carefully

Once the call letter is released, check the examination date, reporting time, venue, roll/registration details and other instructions. Candidates should follow the instructions printed on their own call letter rather than relying on older exam-day information.

8. Do Reach the Centre Well in Advance

Plan the route to the examination centre beforehand and allow sufficient time for travel and entry formalities. Avoid reaching at the last minute, particularly if the centre is unfamiliar.

9. Do Carry the Required Documents

Carry the documents specifically mentioned in the latest call letter/information handout. IBPS instructions have required candidates to carry the call letter/admit card and valid photo identity documentation for examination-related verification.

10. Do Read Instructions Before Starting the Test

Once inside the examination hall, read the on-screen instructions carefully. Understand the navigation and marking options before beginning to attempt questions.

IBPS Clerk Don’ts

1. Don’t Start New Topics at the Last Moment

Avoid spending the final few days trying to master completely new and difficult topics. Use this period for revision, mocks and error analysis.

2. Don’t Ignore Accuracy for Attempts

Attempting more questions is useful only when accuracy is maintained. Since incorrect answers attract a penalty under IBPS examination rules, avoid blind guessing.

3. Don’t Spend Too Much Time on One Question

If a question appears lengthy or unfamiliar, move ahead and return to it only if time permits. Spending excessive time on one question can reduce the number of easier questions you can attempt.

4. Don’t Change Your Strategy Completely on Exam Day

Your mock-test strategy should already be tested before the examination. Avoid experimenting with a completely new section order or attempting unfamiliar question types for the first time in the actual exam.

5. Don’t Carry Prohibited Items

IBPS instructions prohibit several items inside the examination centre, including mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, earphones, calculators, electronic pens/scanners, watches, cameras and other electronic or communication devices. Candidates should also avoid carrying unnecessary items because IBPS states that arrangements for safekeeping of prohibited items cannot be assured.

6. Don’t Carry Unauthorised Study Material

Printed or handwritten material, bits of paper, writing pads, geometry boxes and similar stationery are among the items prohibited under IBPS examination instructions.

7. Don’t Carry Unnecessary Jewellery or Accessories

IBPS instructions include restrictions/checks relating to metallic items and ornaments. Candidates should avoid wearing unnecessary accessories and should follow the latest instructions provided for their examination.

8. Don’t Take Food or Unauthorised Water Bottles Inside

IBPS examination instructions have restricted packed/opened eatables and water bottles, with permitted items depending on the instructions applicable to the particular examination. Check the latest call letter/information handout before carrying anything to the centre.

9. Don’t Engage in Any Unfair Means

Candidates must not use unfair means, impersonate another candidate, record examination content, communicate with other candidates or carry prohibited communication devices. IBPS can disqualify candidates and impose further penalties for misconduct or use of unfair means.

10. Don’t Ignore Official Updates

IBPS can issue corrigenda, revised vacancies and other notices during a recruitment cycle. In fact, IBPS published a corrigendum and updated vacancies for CRP-CSA-XVI on 29 September 2026. Candidates should therefore regularly check the official IBPS website for updates.

IBPS Clerk Last-Minute Preparation Tips

In the final days before Prelims, candidates should focus on mock tests, sectional practice, revision and error analysis rather than attempting to cover the entire syllabus again. Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning should receive regular timed practice, while English preparation can focus on reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and frequently tested question types.
