Central Water Commission Launches ‘Floodwatch’ Mobile App

The Chairman of the Central Water Commission (CWC), Shri Kushvinder Vohra, unveiled the “FloodWatch” mobile application. The primary objective of this app is to utilize mobile phones as a medium to promptly share information about flood situations and forecasts with the general public, extending up to a span of 7 days in real-time.

Speaking to the audience during the app launch, Shri Vohra expressed his satisfaction in introducing “FloodWatch,” a mobile application designed to offer real-time updates on the flood situation across the nation and provide forecasts to the public.

  • The newly launched mobile app “FloodWatch” provides real-time flood information and forecasts to the public.
  • The app is user-friendly and offers readable and audio broadcasts in both English and Hindi languages.
  • Users can monitor the current flood situation across the country using the app’s key feature of real-time flood monitoring.
  • The app utilizes near real-time river flow data from various sources to provide accurate information.
  • It offers flood forecasts for up to 24 hours or flood advisories for up to 7 days using an interactive map.
  • Users can select a specific station on the map or search for a station’s name to access flood forecasts.
  • The app also provides state-wise and basin-wise flood forecasts or advisories, which can be selected from a dropdown menu.
  • The user-friendly app is available for download on Android devices via the Google Play Store.

About Central Water Commission (CWC)

The Central Water Commission (CWC) is a premier technical organization of the Government under the Ministry of Jal Shakti. It is responsible for the planning, development, and coordination of water resources in the country.

The CWC was established in 1953 under the Ministry of Irrigation and Power. It was reorganized in 1975 and placed under the Ministry of Water Resources. In 2019, the Ministry of Water Resources was renamed the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

The CWC has its headquarters in New Delhi and has regional offices in all the states and union territories of India. It also has a number of field stations and laboratories.
