The National Health Authority (NHA) initiated the 100 Microsites project to fast-track the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) throughout India. In a noteworthy achievement, Mizoram has taken the lead by launching an ABDM Microsite in its capital city, Aizawl. This groundbreaking step marks Mizoram as the first Indian state to activate an ABDM Microsite.
As part of this initiative, all healthcare facilities in the area, ranging from private clinics to small hospitals and laboratories, will be integrated with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. This integration will empower these facilities to provide digital healthcare services to patients, contributing to the modernization and efficiency of the healthcare system.
What is an ABDM Microsite?
The ABDM Microsites represent specific geographical areas where targeted efforts are directed towards bringing small and medium-sized private healthcare providers on board. State Mission Directors of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) primarily oversee the implementation of these Microsites, while the National Health Authority (NHA) provides the necessary financial resources and overall guidance.

Execution
For effective execution, an interfacing agency is designated to have an on-ground team that engages with healthcare providers in the designated area. This team works to raise awareness about the advantages of ABDM, assists service providers in joining the core registries of ABDM, and promotes the utilization of ABDM-enabled digital solutions for regular clinical documentation. Patients can link their health records, generated at these healthcare facilities, with their Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHAs). They can access and share these records using any ABDM-enabled Personal Health Record (PHR) application on their mobile devices (https://phr.abdm.gov.in/uhi/1231).
Pilot Program
NHA has previously conducted Microsites pilots in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Surat. The insights and lessons learned from these pilot programs have been incorporated into the broader structure of the 100 Microsites project under ABDM.
Mizoram has taken a significant step in this direction by launching an ABDM Microsite in its capital city. Other states, including Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh, are also making notable progress in the implementation of ABDM Microsites. Further expansion of such microsites is anticipated in the coming weeks.
Types of facilities to be covered under a Microsite
- Microsites within the framework of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) encompass a wide range of private healthcare facilities.
- These facilities include standalone clinics, polyclinics, nursing homes, and small hospitals (with a preference for those with less than 10 beds).
- Additionally, labs, pharmacies, and any other healthcare establishments that generate health records are also covered by these Microsites.
Inclusivity is a key principle of ABDM, as it involves health facilities and professionals from all systems of medicine. This ensures that healthcare services provided under various medical disciplines are integrated into the digital framework of the initiative.
Categories of a Microsite
Each State or Union Territory (UT) has the flexibility to decide on the type of Microsite category that aligns with its regional priorities. There are two categories to choose from:
- Category A Microsite: This type of Microsite encompasses a minimum of 1000 healthcare facilities, including all the mentioned types like clinics, polyclinics, nursing homes, small hospitals, labs, pharmacies, and others.
- Category B Microsite: This category involves a Microsite with a minimum of 500 facilities but less than 1000 facilities. Similar to Category A, it includes various health facilities like clinics, polyclinics, nursing homes, small hospitals, labs, pharmacies, and others.
States and UTs can choose the category that suits their specific needs and priorities, allowing for a tailored approach to implementing these Microsites.
Significance of ABDM Microsites
- The 100 Microsite project as part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) holds significant importance in its aim to engage with numerous small and medium-sized healthcare providers within the private sector.
- This innovative approach of Microsites is designed to accelerate the process of digitizing healthcare services throughout the nation.
- Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Mizoram team, Aizawl has emerged as the pioneer ABDM Microsite in the country.
- The National Health Authority (NHA) is optimistic and eagerly anticipates a similarly enthusiastic response from teams in other states to continue driving this initiative forward.
