Punjab Launches ‘Mission IndraDhanush’ 5.0, A Healthcare Drive

Mission IndraDhanush: In a notable healthcare initiative, Balbir Singh, the State Health Minister of Punjab, officially launched “Mission Intensified IndraDhanush” 5.0 at Dr. BR Ambedkar Medical College in Mohali, Punjab. Originally slated for August but postponed due to flooding, this mission is dedicated to providing vaccinations against 12 Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPD).

Key Objectives: “Mission IndraDhanush” 5.0

The core objectives of “Mission Intensified IndraDhanush” 5.0 encompass:

Targeting Partially Vaccinated Pregnant Women and Unvaccinated Children

This mission seeks to:

  • Extend vaccination coverage to pregnant women who have only received partial vaccinations or remain unvaccinated.
  • Address the vaccination needs of children aged 0-5 years who may have missed their immunizations.

Vaccination Against 12 VPDs

The mission offers immunization against a comprehensive list of 12 Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPD), including:

  • Diphtheria
  • Whooping Cough
  • Tetanus
  • Polio
  • Tuberculosis
  • Hepatitis B
  • Meningitis and Pneumonia
  • Haemophilus Influenzae Type B Infections
  • Japanese Encephalitis (JE)
  • Rotavirus Vaccine
  • Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV)
  • Measles-Rubella (MR)

Details of the Vaccination Drive

Throughout the mission’s duration, a total of 6156 vaccination sessions will be conducted across the state of Punjab.

Focus on Remote Areas and Vulnerable Communities

Special attention will be given to reaching remote areas, especially those with brick kilns and locations where migratory laborers reside. The identification and vaccination of individuals in these areas will be accorded the highest priority.
