The Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) conducts the state-level civil services examination for Rajasthan.  This Examination is the Rajasthan Administrative Services (RAS) Examination.   Through this Examination, Candidates are recruited to Rajasthan’s state and subordinate services. However, applicants must first check their RAS Eligibility before applying for the RAS Exam to avoid being disqualified later.

RAS Eligibility: Overview

The Notification for the RAS recruitment provides information about the eligibility for participating in RAS recruitment.  The RAS eligibility will be for nationality, age, education, and these will vary from category to category.  You will need to check the eligibility requirements for your category and then fill in the application form.  For all the information you provide in your application form regarding the various eligibility criteria, ensure that you have valid proof.  For Example, if you specify your date of birth, you must have your school certificate with the same date of birth to corroborate your claim. The Commission will use this to verify your age.

  • Age Limit
  • Nationality
  • Category

RAS Educational Qualification Related Eligibility Criteria

Those persons who wish to apply for the post of RAS need to have a valid Graduation degree in any stream but from a recognized university.

A recognized university is considered to be one of it is: 

  1. a university that has been incorporated under any Act of the Central Legislature
  2. a university that has been incorporated under any Act of the State Legislature

A person can also apply if they hold a graduation degree from any Educational Institution set up under any Act of Parliament or have been declared as being deemed under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956.

Also, a person can apply for RAS recruitment if they have a qualification that is equivalent to a graduation if it is recognized to be such by the Government and RPSC together.

Persons in the final year of graduation have the liberty to apply for the RAS recruitment process. The only rule is that they must provide a graduation degree (having passed the final year examination) before sitting for the Main Examination.

RAS Age Limit 

For persons to apply for the RAS recruitment process, they must fulfil the commission’s age eligibility criteria. The commission provides both the upper age limit and the minimum attained age for the recruitment. Also, based on the various categories, there are certain age relaxations. Read on to know more about age-related criteria for RAS recruitment. 

To apply for the RAS Examination 2021, the minimum age and maximum age for candidates from the General category are as given below. 

  • Minimum Age (on 01/01/2022) – not less than 21 years 
  • Maximum Age (on 01/01/2022) – not more than 40 years

In the case of non-gazetted employees: 

  • Minimum Age (on 01/01/2022) – not less than 25 years 
  • Maximum Age (on 01/01/2022) – not more than 45 years

Based on the recruitment rules of RPSC, different categories have been provided relaxation in maximum age compared with the maximum age limit of the general category.  The following table provides a gist of the same as specified in the Recruitment Notification Advertisement.

Ex-prisonerThe upper age limit specified for the specific category will be relaxed to the imprisonment term served by the ex-prisoner 0nly if the person was not already over age prior to the conviction and, as per rules, was eligible for appointment.
The upper age limit mentioned above will not be applicable for ex-prisoners who had served under Government on a substantive basis in any post before conviction and were eligible for appointment under the rules.
Persons who have served in N.C.C.The upper age limit as specified will stand relaxed as much as the period equal to the service rendered in N.C.C., for cadet Instructor and if the age thus resulting is not more than the maximum age limit that has been decided by more than three years, they will be considered as in the specified age limit.
Emergency Commissioned Officers (Released) &Short Service Commissioned Officers (Released)Post-release from the Army will be considered within the prescribed age limit even if they are past the age limit at the time of appearing before the Commission had they been eligible as such at the time of their joining the Commission in the Army.
ReservistFor reservists, namely, the defense personnel transferred to the reserve & the ex-service personnel, the maximum upper age limit will be 50 years.

It is specified in the Recruitment Notification Advertisement that: 

  1. The provision of upper age limit relaxation will be non-cumulative. A candidate will be allowed to claim only one form of relaxation even if the candidate falls in several of the categories that have been provided relaxation. 
  2. The eligibility details provided in the Recruitment Notice Advertisement do not specify the maximum number of attempts that a person can make.  All that the candidate needs to fulfill is the age-related criteria and the post-specific eligibility if prescribed. 
  3. The RPSC might enforce Post-specific requirements for physical fitness.
  4. Since the retirement age in Rajasthan Government is 60 years, a person applying for the RAS recruitment must be less than 60 years of age.
  5. Persons without a Rajasthan domicile shall be considered to be General Category candidates.

Nationality Related Eligibility Criteria

  • Any person applying for the RAS Examination must be a citizen of India. 
  • Foreign nationals and Non-Resident Indians (NRI) are not eligible for the RAS Examination. 
  • Candidates who hold a Rajasthan domicile shall be provided preference during the process of selection.
  • Persons who do not have a domicile of Rajasthan can also apply for the RAS recruitment process.

FAQ

How many attempts are allowed for the RAS Examination?

There is no mention of the number of attempts allowed to a candidate.   The only provision is that the candidate can keep attempting till the candidate does not reach the upper age limit for the category in which the application is made.

Is there relaxation in the upper age limit for OBC category candidates? 

Yes, there is relaxation in age for candidates belonging to the OBC category. An OBC category candidate with a Rajasthan domicile is 5 years in the case of male candidates and 10 years in the case of female candidates.
