Success Story of Prashant Singh – Cleared SBI PO 2019

Read Success Story of Prashant Singh, who initially faced a lot of challenges in his preparation due to his job timings & comparatively poor command of English. But, he did not let his weaknesses overshadow his dreams and with the help of his friends and a properly planned strategy, he went on to clear SBI PO 2019 in his first attempt.

Here is his inspiring story:

Hello everyone, I am Prashant Singh from Prayagraj. I am currently working in Wipro as a Project engineer. I did my engineering in electrical engineering from Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology. This was my first attempt for SBI PO, and I’m thrilled to announce that I have successfully cleared it and got my first choice of Circle. (Lucknow)

Initial Strategy:

I started my preparation in April this year as I was fed up with my job. I decided to join banking as it got my attention as a lucrative job and also I had lost interest in technological job. So I decided to go in banking sector. I got in touch with my friends Shubham Chand, Mohit Jha, Divyanshu Diwedi since they had cleared these exams and were among the toppers last year. They just guided me regarding what to focus and how to manage my time.

I had a hard time while preparing as my job was 24/7 with frequent change in shifts. However, I had made up my mind and my office colleagues helped me. For preparation I took one mock test to see where I stand and what needs to be done. I scored 30/100 in Prelims. Very scared, but with time I gave more mocks and analyzed it thoroughly.

Soon my score started crossing 50. I had given more than 40 mocks before SBI Prelims. Finally cleared it and I attempted just 75 questions but my accuracy was great. Finally I got released from my project on 29 June. I was elated and started GA section as this section was key to crack mains. 20 days rigorous study schedule helped me learn 6 months Current Affairs. And finally got the call for the interview.

But as the interview was approaching, my HR called and asked me to quit Wipro as I was on the bench since for more than 75 days. I got depressed. She was putting pressure to resign. But I was determined and focused on interview. On 26 September my interview got over and it went very well. I was hopeful that I’ll convert. But again HR called and asked for resignation. I was happy but sad at the same time and eagerly waiting for final results. I was in a dilemma what if I get rejected. Finally result came and happiness poured in my life. I cracked it.

Section Wise Preparation Tips

English – Coming from a Hindi Medium background it is hard for me to prepare for English section. But I had already started working on my English a year ago. I read newspapers daily, wrote word meanings, learnt it and did that for continuous 4-5 months. I read novels, The Hindu, The Indian express. I was not well versed with Grammar basics, so I decided to be well versed in English itself the way my Hindi is and some grammatical error would automatically be eliminated. And that helped me in English section.

Reasoning – My reasoning was good enough and I just needed to work on my speed. For that mocks helped me a lot. I took olive board, practice mock test series and attempted with my full attention. Soon got speed that I could score 25+ in this section.

Quant – I was a bit weak in this section and time was less so I followed a strategy to avoid word problems first. Solved DI, Calculations, equations then if time left word problems. And after taking a lot of mocks I understood the pattern and it helped me crack Prelims and Mains.

GA– I was very weak in this section but various current affairs videos & quizzes from different websites helped me a lot. I read Jan To July Current affairs from these sites.

Interview – While working in Wipro I worked on my communication and that helped in boosting my confidence. Referred Oliveboard mock interviews on you tube that helped me go through all important questions that one is supposed to know before the interview. I made notes on basic banking and personal interview questions.

How Oliveboard helped?

Olive board’s mains exam is on par with actual mains exam of SBI PO. The level is good. I scored more or less the same as I got in SBI Mains

Tips to Aspirants:-

Take a lot of mock tests and do analysis, this will help you analyze your mistakes and make you learn and score better. Mocks will increase and with that your confidence. Try to stick with basics for Prelims and improve calculations for Quant section. Focus on the pattern of any exam you want to give.

Remember “Your mind is a weapon, Keep it loaded”. So never lose patience and hope. If you can manage to keep yourself dedicated then half your work is already sorted.

I hope my journey will help other aspirants in their preparation. All the Best Guys!
